Jim Robinson started FreeRepublic as an online gathering hub for grassroots conservatives. Protests and write-in campaigns were organized through the site during the Clinton impeachment.

How Technology Changed American Politics in the Internet Age
The Internet Era
An early moment in any timeline about modern tech development in politics is the February 1997 creation of the GOP Internet forum FreeRepublic. To put it in perspective, 1998 was the year Google was founded. It was also the year that MoveOn was created for progressives as a political community formed in response to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
Ping to a mention of FR as a seminole moment in the history of politics and the Internet.
Tech ping?
Very cool interactive timeline. See September 1996 for the mention of FR.
I don't see the connection with the everglade and swamp indians of florida.
Found This place in 1999 lurked till 2001 yeah I wasn’t so sure about this whole internet thing ... I figured it a fad. ;^))
Best conservative forum on the net.. We have been on top of all kinds of breaking news over the years.
FR is proof that even people who agree will also disagree at times. That’s what separates conservatives and libertarians from liberals.
The internet permits free nexis/lexis like search capabilities of contemporary and past news articles to quickly dispel the Left’s talking points meme of the day.
It’s considered “unfair” to use someone’s past statements against them.
Friggin’ autocorrect. Ugh.
SEMINAL!!!!
LOL! I like the “Seminole” version better. :)
Er, what?
"The g****** Seminoles got nothing to do with it!"
Heh, heh, heh. Right on.
From the day I discovered FR by surfing the news, I have been a member. From FR, I was turned on to Drudge, whom I have quit checking after his attack on conservatives during this years Republican primary campaign.
Since joining in February of 1998, there has not been a day I have not checked in, unless I was either on vacation or some other reason that kept me from getting online.
There IS NO SITE that even comes close to FR for current information on everything that effects the future of America.
LOL!
“a seminole moment “
The media viciously warred on us to take our place.
Liberal political sites were astro-turfed and ad-driven search engines were created to drive people to them.
Yes, it was a “Seminole” moment. Funny how often misprints turn out to have much truth...
