If they go that far what’s to keep them from just taking your money?

Again paying down your debt helps, but if you pay down debt only to have your money seized or end up being worthless? How much would the last can of beans on shelf, the last bottle of antibiotic, the last bottle of clean water be worth to you?

You have to cover all your bases or you could end up a well off person who in the end staved to death.

A quart of wheat could cost you a whole days wages. So what would my five gallons buckets of wheat be worth?

In the house of the wise are stores of choice food and oil, but a foolish man devours all he has. Proverbs 21:20

Something I’ve been thinking about is vacuum packing sacks of Bugle Boy (for those that don’t know it’s loose tobacco in a foil bag with cigarette papers)in canning jars for barter.

Steven Harris has some great recommendations for grid down emergency power here:

This is stuff he’s tested, tried and true.

Perfect, thanks. I’ve never seen those filters and didn’t realize they attach with a nipple and nut.

Design a battle pack like an MRE, tobacco, papers, matches all in a waterproof sealed pouch, small in size to be considered a monetary amount of an easy transaction.

Say make a three day package, a weeks package.

Good idea. That’s why I like these ‘list’ style threads, the list itself may be bad or good, but the discussion gets people to thinking!

Still needs to be purified.

Likely to have bird-droppings in it.

25 pounds of rice is worthless if you don’t have any way to cook it. I have some butane stoves and extra butane canisters for preparing our rice. Just a friendly reminder ...

Marginally better.
Depends on the finish.
Seems glazed ceramic is the best - or enamel-finished metal.

The first thing I cooked in my homemade cardboard solar oven was rice. Best rice ever.

I may be eating snake when SHTF. Just killed 3 more by the garden this morning and one got away. That’s pushing 10 in the past couple months. I may never set foot outside again.

Ah hah! I’ve heard of solar ovens. That is a great idea. I live near Atlanta, which is a great place to use a solar oven ...

Boring?

Got a neighbor who's idea of prepping is owning two pairs of pants. He also has a very weak stomach(all in his head...he nearly barfed when I cut open a clam.)I can't imagine what he's gonna do if I hand him a can of rice wrapped in grape leaves. But I don't think it'll be boring.
