A tenured university professor penned an editorial in the Washington Post last week in which he skewered the Republican Party for its self-interest and self-righteousness and suggested President Obama had made a mistake for working with the GOP.
Self-interest and self-righteousness are at the heart of the Republican Party, wrote Professor Drew Westen in an article published last week in The Washington Post.
Westen, a tenured professor of psychology and psychiatry at Emory University, also argued that President Obama has a penchant for unilateral bipartisanship and made the mistake of working with the same Republicans who had just decimated the economy.

Uh huh... and laziness, ignorance and Anti-Americanism is at the heart of the Democratic party!
Spare me!!!
All tax supported tenure should be abolished. Not only at public universities but at private institutions that accept tax dollars.
Talk about self-parody -- as if there is a more self-righteous creature on the face of the planet than a progressive leftist.
And one more self-interested than a tenure-seeking public employee (as he was before securing his personal gravy train)?
This putz ought to read a little less Karl Marx, and a little more Adam Smith:
“It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest... [Every individual] intends only his own security, only his own gain. And he is in this led by an invisible hand to promote an end which was no part of his intention. By pursuing his own interest, he frequently promotes that of society more effectually than when he really intends to promote it.”
RE: Uh huh... and laziness, ignorance and Anti-Americanism is at the heart of the Democratic party!
Right on the money!!!
Are we to understand that the democrats are selfless and righteous?
In November 2011, The New Republic ranked Westen among its list of “overrated thinkers, writing “he appears to be giving a deeper, more inward analysis, when in fact his knowledge of politics is amateurish.” [from Wikipedia article on this professor.]
"Unilateral bipartisanship" ... to the professor that must mean 0bama has the wisdom to decide what the other party is entitled to ... no need to bring them into the decision process.
I'd call it an oxymoron, myself.
Doesn’t Emory host Jimmy Carter’s Center for World Peace for Useful Idiots, or some such?
Somebody hasn’t been showing up for his electroshock treatments? Choking the chicken whilst writing hope and change on your bathroom mirror is no substitute for the Tesla tickle.
Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, vol.1, p.16
Ah, Emory University, that bastion of conservative thought where all future leaders must attend for their fascist indoctrination. /s
Actually, I have a new rule. I don’t read any words beyond a headline which contains the phrase “University Professor Says.”
Evidently Emory University hands out tenured professorships in psychology and psychiatry to anyone who collects and redeems enough cereal box tops. It can't possibly grant them based on intelligence, insight, capability for deep thinking, honesty, or quality of scholarship.
“Westen, a tenured professor of psychology and psychiatry at.....”
That clinches it...he’s certifiably nuts, like all liberals!
Lessee now... professor-for-life, WaPoObama, “Republicans are Evil” meme recycled...
“Unilateral bipartisanship”? Unilateral means working alone (remember that Evil BushCo went “unilateral” into Iraq, doncha know)...
And “bipartisanship” means working together with the opposition (which is Leftist doublespeak for “pass our agenda if you know what’s good for you”).
So, it means “working together by yourself”?
Sounds like Self righteous selfishness to me.
Amazing how STUPID professors are in Government sponsored indoctrination centers.
The prof misued the word “decimated.”
Apparently, not only is his word wealth weak, but he cannot count.
Pity.
