Bill Press: He may have been drunk when he wrote the column below, but I don't think he can plead diminished capacity when he is convicted for violating the Law of Unintended Consequences.
"Bill Press: Praise the Lord -- and stockpile the ammunition."

"Don't get me wrong. I believe in the Second Amendment. And, as a Scalia originalist, I believe we should take it literally. Let's bring back, in every state, as the Constitution so clearly calls for, a "well-regulated militia." Let's require its gun-toting members to carry and clean their own single-shot muskets, to wear the militia uniform, and to go out and drill once a month with fellow minutemen. But let all other guns be banned. . . There is no need for anyone, outside the military, to own an assault weapon. There is no need for anyone, outside of law enforcement, to have a handgun." -- Bill Press.
Dear Mr. Press,
I note with interest your proposals for the forcible disarmament of the American citizenry laid out in your recent column, "Praise the Lord -- and stockpile the ammunition." ( http://www.metrowestdailynews.com/opinion/x1602164926/Press-Praise-the-Lord-and-stockpile-the-ammunition )
I was just wondering how many millions of bodies of your fellow citizens are you willing to stack up to achieve that end? Will a million be enough? Three million? Five? Twenty? For surely you must recognize that there are people in this country who are willing to die for the Founders' principles of liberty and right to property. These are God-given and inalienable and do not depend

We should limit him to a quill pen, or at most a 1776 printing press and delivery systems.
The 1792/1795 militia acts required muskets or rifles for infantry, cannons for artillery, and pistols for cavalry. When I was in the 3rd Armored Division they issued vast numbers of pistols, as well as machine guns, submachine guns (M-3 and M-3A1) bayonets, and mortars.
In this country the militia is divided into the organized militia (National Guard) and the unorganized militia which later includes males older than 17 and younger than 45, and males older than 45 and younger than 65 if they previously served as an officer.
There are other provisions for the Naval Militia, which would be permitted ownership of crew served weapons, for service under Letters of Marque and Reprisal.
The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun.
John F. Kennedy:
By calling attention to a well-regulated militia for the security of the Nation, and the right of each citizen to keep and bear arms, our founding fathers recognized the essentially civilian nature of our economy. Although it is extremely unlikely that the fear of governmental tyranny, which gave rise to the 2nd amendment, will ever be a major danger to our Nation, the amendment still remains an important declaration of our basic military-civilian relationship, in which every citizen must be ready to participate in the defense of his country. For that reason I believe the 2nd Amendment will always be important.
George Mason (Father of the Bill of Rights):
"I ask sir, who is the militia? It is the whole people...To disarm the people, that is the best and most effective way to enslave them..." -
I told him that we were there to state that if the law passed we intended to defy it, and that we weren't alone, thousands of Floridians would do the same.
He went sort of walleyed and did some stuttering but he didn't vote for the bill, along with enough other reps to defeat it.
There are times when nothing but defiance will work.
Mr Press:
Just to be clear, if there is an attempt to disarm US citizens, I will not be focusing my attention on those coming to disarm me.
I will focus my attention on the liberal elites who will try and sit back, watching others die for their ambitions.
In such a scenario, you will have nowhere safe to hide.
Keep that in mind as you call for my disarmament.

Press is a big windbag.
He knows his proposal to limit guns to LE, the military and “state militias” has no way of happening.
It makes a dramatic point to remind that gun owners are ready to die on that hill if necessary.
I’m fine with the point being made.
It’s just that to take Press literally is to misrepresent who/what he is.
What he’s really doing is believing that he’s so much smarter than the Americans “who cling to their guns and religion”.
That he’s so much smarter than Scalia.
He believes he’s ridiculing, successfully, all you yayhoos with guns and all who take the second amendment seriously and literally.
To make HIMSELF look cool.
The literal application of his yappings is irrelevant to this yapping dog of the Left.
excellent
Mr Press should have freedom of speech- but only with 1776 implements
Bill Press is an arrogant jerk. But he knows bad publicity is much better than no publicity at all. Or, as Oscar Wilde observed,
“There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”
Ergo, he’s a media whore as well. He’s not even original in his absurd prescription. The unmissed Chief Justice Warren Burger once displayed an eighteenth century musket and declared that since muzzleloaders were state of the art for firearms when the Bill of Rights was ratified, then that’s all that citizens are guaranteed the right to own under the Constitution. That’s right, flintlocks.
Bill Press is worth millions of filthy capitalist dollars, so he’s a screaming hypocrite as well. Who cares what he thinks?
Well John, you should see us now.
Bill Press just likes to ban things. I remember when a private plane collided with an airliner over Cerritos California, he spewed an editorial pushing for the ban of general aviation. That is how he thinks, give govt all power and turn the people into slaves.
More importantly, "Are they willing to die for beliefs while taking out as many of the enemy as possible?"
Liberals aren't interested in getting their hands dirty.
At some time in his time left on planet Earth, Mr. Press
may have a personal epiphany, as to his mortality,
questioned by another mortal, armed with the very thing
Mr. Press vilified, a handgun.
How will he respond? How will he defend himself?
He has no use fot firearms, so the idea of a CHL
would never cross his mind.
I believe his mind could not grasp that it is
happening to him, an engineer of newthought, an
icon of the nrw America.
I doubt it. They will stand there and wait for someone else to save them.
