I am 25 years old. That is pretty young, in the grand scheme of things. Still, I am an adult--I am married, I am a voter, I am a taxpayer...in short, I am a grown up.
But the recent news stories have reduced me to a cowering five-year-old, wanting to hide in my father's lap. But, I am a grown up now, and there is nobody's lap to hide in.
Watching the news stories, I keep thinking of my history classes. I remember being shocked at some of the things that happened in history, being offended by them, being glad that they were all in the past.
At 10 I thought communism was obsolete, since only China, North Korea, Vietnam, and Cuba were communist. I grew up in a haze of patriotic fervor and faith in the belief that America was the best country in the world and that nowhere else would give you more rights.
Ah, a child's perspective.
This is my plea to fellow Freepers--I don't know how to deal with these recent rulings. Our country is falling apart at the seams. My husband (who is going to be a pastor) and I have had conversations about what to do when the chips are down--we are talking about martyrdom. In America. Persecution.
I think that's why this recent Obamacare ruling has me so scared. This is why the gay movement / abortion lobby frightens me. These are the issues that are going to crack the church.
Today, it's paying for contraception. Soon, it's performing gay marriages whether you like it or not. How long until you get punished just for teaching that sin is sin? And once that has happened...how long until the central doctrine of Christianity is verboten?
I fear for my husband. I fear for our future children. I fear for the church. There is so much fear, and it is all around me.
This is America, you know? I always thought as a kid these were the fears I'd never have. America's government is now big and scary and menacing...and I am so very, very, small.
I know that God is in control of things, and I remind myself that He will defend His church no matter what, from age to age. But the persecution is coming--it's already here. I don't doubt that God is at my side and that He will be with me...
But the unknown terrifies me so much.
The world is big and scary, and I am small. So small.
That is an excellent suggestion, and I’ve done that myself.
Very good advice for our young friend.
I’ve read some moving threads in my day.......but this HAS the be the most incredible one.....EVER. Seriously......I have tears rolling down my cheeks.
Here’s a scripture for the times we live in.
Ephesians 6:11,17
“Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of The Spirit, which is the Word of God.”
As others have said, there have been worse times to live in.
My dad was born at the start of Hitler’s reign of terror. I often wonder how my Grama and Grampa coped having children at that scary time.
Fear not, and get back to us anytime. We’re here to support you.
As am I.
I rather hate that adhering to our oath, using violence to oust enemies domestic of the Constitution will be called an attempt to overthrow the government... but this is where we are.
Look at the Heritage list of Free Nations.
America is not on it.
Prior to the AZ and Obama care rulings were were down in the mostly free category.
If you can, leave the nation.
It will starve the Matrix of your energy.
God helps those who help themselves. As the popular song went during WWII, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."
Well said
We will NOT go quietly into the night
God willing
Focus your fear...you are not alone....what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
I have the same fears. I look at the first century Christians and I don’t know how they did it.
But then I do, it took real faith. Faith in God.
But right now, that may not comfort you. You want to see, maybe this country will turn around. Maybe.
Well, this is a bit of advice I have, from me to you, it’s not bible based, though. But I do say, yes, God will not forget his lambs. Yet we all know, lambs have been persecuted for righteousness sake. That is scary.
Here is my advice:
It’s not here yet. It may not ever be here, either. You are not a psychic, and what you fear may never come to pass, though you may be reading the signs, you may have come up with a wrong prognosis.
One does not know the future, and it is no use worrying about what ‘may be’. Like Spock, do not be emotional. It will only defeat you, and perhaps for nothing.
Example. I, as a nurse, have seen so many people come into the hospital, they are told they should have an xray of their chest, abdomen, etc. There may be a most uncomfortable reason for their health problem, between the lines, could be a tumor.
Omg, it’s the end. Here it comes. I know it. They sit morosely, thinking they already know. Their families come in, terrified, mom is ‘that age’. This is it.
Xray, ct scan, whatever, gets done.
Negative.
Weeks worth of tears, worrying, anxiety, depression, loss of appetite...for nought.
Let the facts present themselves, then DEAL with the problem. You will find courage at the time as you need it.
You’re overwhelmed. There are a lot out there feeling the same. You are not alone.
And let’s all pray for our country. Perhaps the almighty will answer our prayers.
Yes
As a vet it tears at me.
Why did we do what we did?
For what?
So our kids can grow up afraid??
No. This will not stand
and go where, exactly?

Well Sir.
You have said it.
And I agree. Fine. I accept whatever they call me.
But after reading this I cannot let it go.
And I would be proud to stand with you
I have the same set of fears, and I’m twice your age.
The America we grew up with, that we cherished, is being knocked down. It’s like standing on a hill overlooking the Rubicon when Julius Caesar crossed that river, starting the civil war which turned the Roman Republic into an autocratic empire.
It is the end of another noble republic.
My best research tells me to ignore what you’ve said on this thread... exactly.
It will be ok son.
All will be well.
Lord God forgive us our sins and save this nation. It may be a sin but I have pride in the red, white and blue. I believe YOU made America for a reason. Please don’t give up on us now. Give us a chance to at least go do fighting.
We love you Lord.
I guess the time has come. Be with us.
In Jesus name

SN....I hear my late father, Korea Veteran, (and my step-father, Pacific WW2 Vet) in your post. I feel like I took advantage, in my stupid, ill-informed youth, to take our freedoms for granted. NO MORE. My deepest apology. I was raised in a conservative home, but rebelled. Didn’t hit me until I had ‘real world’ experience, lived abroad, and had children of my own to finally wake up to what the heck was happening to this country.
God bless ya’! And I will fight to my last, dying breath for the US and for you who have gone before us.
I pray that if the time comes when there are problems that our men and women will band together and with the Lord's help be big enough people to do what we will have to do.
