You may have forgotten about tennis celebrity Anna Kournikova, but the retired star celebrates her 31st birthday today.

Kournikova took the tennis world by storm in the 1990s, gaining as much attention for her good looks as her tennis ability.

But Kournikova's career is largely considered a disappointment.

Once a highly-touted phenom, she failed to live up to her potential before ultimately finding her niche off the court.

I think that Maria Sharapova is much prettier and a better player to boot.

And just think how sexy she'll be after she hits puberty...

Ms. Jolie is attractive. The tennis player is not.

I absolutely love Maria Sharapova.

I absolutely hate Anna Kounikova. She broke Sergei Fedorov’s heart. He was never the same after their relationship ended.

Exactly. She is such a beautiful girl and a very talented player. Much better than most women, so she had to work really hard. She is a complete success,

Her looks are extraordinary because usually people become lazy because it is easy to become vain and a narcissist...... if they just have to look good for a camera. They don’t worry about developing skills (much less moral virtues which take self-mastery) to be the best, especially at a difficult sport.

SOmeone check but I thought that Kournikova was a DOUBLES CHAMPION for several years. That’s not chopped liver where I come from.

Also, she is absolutely beautiful, cute, cuddly, and sexy. The levels of jealousy about her have overflowed the banks of the Nile and even the Denial rivers.

Hingis was okay, but Sharapova is very beautiful and talented.

As Denice Williams might have sung: “Let’s Hear It for the Girls”.

Taste in woman vary widely. I find Jolie somewhat repugnant, with a mouth once described as looking like a goose anus, Sunday's classified ad tattoo in the back, etc. Not attractive to me.

Kournikova is natural, healthy and far sexier to me.

what we don't know is if she wasn't quite as pretty.....and yes, infact, she was/is beautiful.....if she wasn't quite as pretty, would the pressure have been less?...could she have won a few more tourneys?...probably....

but no matter, to reach the professional ranks in womens or mens tennis is meaningful....as it is in most sports, including nascar....

there's lot of polarizing people in sports, but AK is not one of them...

Okay, agreed. Homegrown natural cuteness is the best.

Which neither have.

I wish this one showed her face but it is Martina Hingis.

Yes! That's her!

If Anna has fallen and can’t get up, I’ll help her. Promise. Y’know, these idiots can’t stand the fact that most men care more about seeing Anna than seeing professional women’s tennis. She was the best thing to ever happen to the circuit, and rising attendance lifted all players’ purses. For too many years aggressive lesbianism was ignored by the tennis poohbahs, and dudes stayed away in droves. Wisely. Bob

Some years ago I once saw (on TV) an eye-popping match between Ms. Kournikova and Jelena Dokic.

Man, that was entertainment!

CA....

Agreed; any one could use Jolie’s artificial face and lips for a toilet plunger, better than any thing currently on the market.
As far as the tattoos go just wait until she hits her 50s and 60s and the tats start to run and sag. Tattoos only belong on old Marines, Sailors and pirates.

This is/was Dr. Renee Richards, a former golfer who had a sex-change operation back in the 1970s before turning to professional women's tennis. Her doubles partner was John Lucas, an African-American NBA point guard and college star before his career was cut short by substance abuse.

Lucas and Richards represent, in my mind, the ultimate mixed doubles tennis team. You just can't get much more mixed than a black man who used to be a basketball star and a white woman who used to be a white man. Not to mention both had, let's say, more issues than Time magazine.

I don't understand why she is considered pretty or sexy or anything. Cover up the body and just look at her face, without the distractions. She kind of looks like a bland faced stoner.

No disrespect or anything, but, you're a straight female, right?
