Words can't describe the awe this film inspired, and as we left the private screening of For Greater Glory in Madrid, it was very clear to us why Hollywood did not want this film to be made.
I’m going to go see it this weekend. The more people who go see it, the wider distribution it will get.
Reading up on the Cristeros War, I discovered the US Government provided Pilots, Air Support, weapons, and ammo to the Mexican Government.
The knowledge that US planes were strafing, and killing the brave Mexicans who stood up for their Faith is very painful to me.
What's that saying about God uses fools?..well, I think he probably did that in this case. From what I hear, the young thirteen year old boy who joins the Cristeros is amazing.
I don't get the crying need to glorify the freedom fight of these people AS IF no other group on earth strove/strives equally and as painfully for autonomy.
Why is it that THIS group is singled out for praise!
You can select ANY people on earth for sympathy and praise and never stray from the mark...
I guess if your audience is a nation of idiots SO hopelessly uninformed you can make political capital out of something like this.
What did she do/say?
I'm actually a bit confused (it wouldn't be the first time).
Are you saying that no movie about freedom-fighters should be made unless it also mentions all other freedom-fighters that ever existed?
Or do you believe that this particular group of freedom-fighters is not worthy of a movie?
So you’ll punish all the other fine actors because of the part played by one you don’t like, who probably isn’t even a major figure in the story? Not supporting the movie will just make it more difficult for producers and directors to get funding for another fine movie that could be made.
You lost me on your Rant..What are you talking about? The Cristeros War wasn't just about Catholics, but in a country that was 90% Catholic, the persecuted Anglicans, Protestants, and other Religions were quite small in number. And yes, if you want to pony up 20 million dollars, you, too, are free to make a film about ANY Persecuted People on earth you choose..
Thanks for the post and trailer. When watching the TV short trailers I was thinking it was about the life of Pancho Villa (as the trailers didn’t name the leader) and how the illegals would love it. Glad it’s several steps above that subject!
Read up on how many American volunteers fought on the communist side in the Spanish Civil War and don’t forget to read up on the many atrocities the communists committed during those years.
I’m sure I’ll watch it at some point. But for now, every time I see the trailer, specifically the speech by Andy Garcia’s character to inspire the troops, I can’t help but see it as a poor attempt to copy Mel Gibson’s epic speech in Braveheart.
“Today we are going to send a message. Freedom is our home, our wives, our children, our faith! Freedom is our livesand we will defend it or die trying!”
vs
“Aye, fight and you may die. Run, and you’ll live... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin’ to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they’ll never take... OUR FREEDOM!”
