I was watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares last night, and I had an epiphany about this presidential election that led me to believe that Barack Hussein Obama is destined to be a one-termer. I just wanted to share my observation with you.
This episode was about a restaurant called Park's Edge, in Atlanta's Inman Park neighborhood. The two owners were good friends, Richard and Jorge, I believe, who found themselves with some money to burn, so they decided to open a restaurant together. Neither had any experience in the restaurant industry, although Jorge had gone to culinary school. Both had a blind eye to the restaurant's real problem, which was that the food just wasn't very good, but there was another problem which was apparently enough of an issue that both owners and most of the staff pointed to it as the defining event that would be their downfall if they ultimately failed.
It seems that, soon after the restaurant opened, it wasn't doing all that great. There had been some negative reviews, and so Richard, who is black (and flamboyantly gay, I think), was interviewed by the local news about the restaurant's lack of success. Richard attributed it to a perceived notion on his part that this neighborhood doesn't want a black-owned restaurant. All agreed that this had led to a mass exodus of patrons from the restaurant in the years since.
What struck me as so relevant about this was that I think it's a microcosm of what is about to happen in November. You see, Inman Park is a very progressive neighborhood in Atlanta's eastern perimeter, and my gut tells me that the people in that area probably couldn't care less what color someone is. Inman Park is actually listed as a very gay-friendly neighborhood as well, so they probably didn't bat an eye at Richard's flamboyance. It probably really was the FOOD that was a problem at this restaurant right from the start. However, when Richard said what he did, the people in that neighborhood clearly bristled at the concept of being called a bunch of racists, and they took it out on the restaurant in an appropriate way - by refusing to eat there.
How does that translate to politics? I think that this country is, for the most part, like those residents of Inman Park. We're pretty tolerant of most things, and willing to give most anyone a chance. But, when we point out that the food isn't that great, and in response we are told that it's because of a lack of character on our part, we feel that we are being unfairly maligned, and we will fight back in subtle ways that make our point very clear. That's what I think is about to happen to Obama this fall. He and his little chihuahua Eric Holder have spent over three years telling us that we're a bunch of racists. Obama's surrogates have repeated this refrain at every opportunity - anyone who disagrees with the king must be a racist! I think that there are many, many people who quietly smile, take it, and mentally promise never to vote for him again. That determination may not even come across in opinion polls. Most people probably have a desire to appear pretty even-keel, so they may not tell a pollster how they really feel, but come November, they will unleash the most powerful and effective weapon they have - a vote to send Obama packing.

Whether liberal Romney or Obama win, we are in for a major nightmare. Neither one is adequate for the job. Worst election in history. Whoever wins, America loses.

Just finished reading an article about Atlanta and the fact that blacks have been given many advantages through the years ,since we haven’t had a white mayor since ‘73. Sorry—they just take care of their own.

Obama has done nothing but insult many decent Americans, either as groups (Bible-clinging, rifle owning, etc), or as individuals (corporate leaders, bankers, etc).
This is going to bite him and Plugs in the ass like a hungry alligator in the middle of a drying up swamp.

Your point was well made and I sincerely hope it turns out to be correct. Not a Romney guy by any means, but this country simply cannot survive a 2nd 0bama term.
Reminds me of the old story of the pet food company CEO in a sales meeting complaining about the poor sales of their new dog food brand. After lengthy discussions about changing the marketing strategy or the advertising, someone from the research department says ‘the dogs don’t like it’.
Dems voted in the same numbers in 04 and 08, the difference was 8M pubbies sitting home in 08 because they couldn’t hold their noses hard enough to vote for John the “maverick(TM)” McCain. I don’t see that happening this time, Romney despite any faults is a much more attractive candidate than McCain was.

The big advantage of Romney over the Kenyan is that presidents are all more contained and restrained in their first term. As a second termer with no worries about re-election, the Kenyan will do whatever he wants. In his first term, Romney will be bound by re-election hopes.
personally, i like the show... i love Chef Ramsey... this is something i watch with my two kids... we laugh in bewilderment and in disgust at times...

I find one shortcoming, though. I would put it this way. For Blacks to abandon 0bama, they would have to get past one very serious case of denial. They would have to come to the realization that they’ve been badly hoodwinked by...another Black. Thus, they may have a policy argument with 0bama, but that’s not sufficient for them to change their votes in large numbers. No, the Brotha gets another chance.
As for other “swingable” groups, I don’t see Jews moving away from 0bama by a whole lot. I *do* see independents moving away from him.
I’m with you in spirit. I *do* think 0bama loses, as you say. I don’t quite see it as formulaic as your analogy. 0bama could win if gas drops a buck between now and November if no other factor gets better, even with this crappy employment picture. 0bama could win if the upcoming debt wranglings are not properly spun by the Repubs; and conversely, well-spun by the Dems. How the American people can tolerate a Senate failing to come up with a budget for 3 years is utterly beyond me, and I *do* think a larger and larger number of people are becoming seriously alarmed at the debt situation. But we got a ton of people who are stupid as the day is long. With a candidate as lukewarm as Romney I am not seeing any decisive edge for the GOP.
Every day I see incidents that spell trouble for “the one”. Just this evening at a meeting, a life-long democrat was having a melt down about something that obama has done. I never was clear about what, but the results were explosive. That man will not vote democrat this year. He’s had enough.
I chided him about demanding to know if we were calling our legislators and Senators like we should. I asked him why he wasn’t attending the Tea Party meetings. He stammered a bit on that one. I challenged him to come to our meetings and meet all the democrats, independents and republicans who were actually doing something about the problems we face.

We’ve got yet another RINO. Which helps us with moderates, independents, but that’s offset by the base that wits home as they did with McCain. ANd let’s face it, no matter who Romney picks for VP, it won’t be as good as Palin was in ‘08.
And you’re right...I’m afraid we’ve passed the tipping point in this country, there are simply more stupid people on the dole now then there are responsible hard working people and they’re breeding and adding more future leeches to the voting pool. WIth dead people pets and illegals voting, it’s going to be a tough climb for Romney, with the media in zerrhoids back pocket.
Sadly, I think we’re in for 4 more years.
On a high note, he’s so arrogant and clueless, he might just get himself into a corner he can’t get back out of, and the earlier the better. Poetic justice would be an impeachment, or at the very least hog-tying himself to a scandal he can’t overcome like Sweet WIlliam did with Lewinsky, ensuring a legacy he never saw coming!
I disagree, completely. IMHO, the 2008 election between “O” and “Mac” was as bad a political paring for POTUS as I've ever seen.
McCain is less interested in the opinion of his party than I believe Romney will be. And I think McCain would have been almost as bad a disaster as what we're enduring right now...except all the “B.S.” would have an “R” next to it.
Romney has his “warts,” but he has a far greater grasp of the importance of economic liberty than I believe McCain does. I realize that “RomneyCare” is something that sticks in many Republican craws. But I'm willing to trust that Romney will work to end Obamacare, and that he's smart enough to know that if he doesn't kill Obamacare Romney will be just one more name attached to the slow bleed-out of America's freedoms and economy. From a purely pragmatic point of view I don't think he wants to hold that place in history.
Not everyone remains hardened fast in time in terms of what they believe, and what they think is best for the country. While certainly imperfect, I believe Romney is morphing to a more conservative point of view. It's happened before. Remember, Reagan didn't switch from Democrat to Republican until he was in his 50s.
Romney was not my pick out of the Republican candidates. But if I had to choose between Romney and McCain to be potus, there's no choice for me...McCain is the ultimate Republican loser.
I'm no big fan of Romney. But he'd make a far better POTUS than Obama. Even if all he does is to end ObamaCare, that would be such a huge event it would make his presidency a success from my PoV.
