Best you concentrate on getting a GOP Senate that has strong conservative influence to prevent Obama from having his picks put on the SCOTUS.
Conservatives will still be here in 2016 and they will be ready to fight but first they need to clear out the turncoats in the GOP because right now conservatives don’t have a party.

I'm a Newt guy until the bitter end. Can't say that Mitt would win or not against Obama but if it comes down to those two in the General, I'll go with Mitt and you can stick with Obama. We would have some influence over Mitt on SCOTUS appointments just like we did with RINO Bush on Harriet Miers but we would have NO influence on Obama’s next choices. In fact, Obama would pick the worst Nominee next time around just to rub our faces in it. Bill Ayers comes to mind or maybe Van Jones, you never know.

If there aren't enough Conservatives now (after seeing what The One has done) to get Newt or even Santorum to the General, what makes you think we can overcome the abyss in 2016? By then there will be even more people on the Dole and the population will be resigned to Obama’s “Fundamental Change”. 2016 might as well be 2066.

Romney is a liberal and a liar. If you are so much for Newt which I highly doubt, then you would heed Newt’s words when he said that in debates Romney lied and knew he was lying, that he has no shame, no moral core.
Romney as a liberal and a liar will not be influenced by conservatives. In fact he will do to conservatives what he has done to them in the primaries.
If Romney were in the democrat party where he belongs then it would be fine because we could go after him with our party. But since he has taken over our party for the liberal GOP establishment, we have no party to fight democrats. To vote for Romney is to vote for the GOP liberal DC establishment, who are a subsidiary of the democrats. Therefore, to have a party we must ensure Romney is defeated and that the liberal GOP establishment is shown the door and driven to the democrats where they belong. Then we have a party to fight with in 2016.
But it does not matter, you will never see Romney as CINC in the White House. He is not liked, has no broad appeal, no core, a phony through and through. He will not win and you can bet on it. Romney’s coronation is for one reason and one reason only, so that the Beltway elite can hold onto their perks and continue their self-serving cronyism at the expense of everyone else.
When he does that, it is open season on moonbats, no limit.

I was a Cain guy and now I'm a Newt guy. The fact that I live in Realville as Rush says, and we might be stuck with Romney at the end of the process does not mean I just let someone like Obama go waltzing unopposed back into the White House.
I have said, and I will say it again, you Vote your Candidate in the Primary and you Vote your Party's Candidate in the General. I'm hoping that Newt will still be in it by June when my State holds its Primary, just so I can cast my Ballot for him. The system sucks, but it's all we have at the moment.
Maybe we should apply what I call the Cheney Rule, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. In the case of Romney, change Friend to Acquaintance. Either way, it's Nobama, no way for me. I'll stick with Mark Levin on this issue, thank you very much.
BTW - If Romney gets the Delegates, it's him versus Obama in the General. There is no one else to save the day. Calling me a Useful Idiot (chuckle, snort, cough, gasp, puke) because facing that dilemma leaves us a choice of one guy or the other does nothing to lessen the impact of a second Obama (nothing to lose) Term. You might as well stick your fingers in your ears and hum out loud, but that won't change what this Country will look like in 2016.
You and I are at a stalemate, just as many here seem to be.
It won't make any difference at the end of the day. You have expressed your opinion on the matter and I have expressed mine. We have both played this hand over and over again with the same outcome.
I wish you the best in the position you have taken, but there is really no point in going around and around with this. When a FReeper actually casts a Vote for the Republican Candidate in the General Election, whether Romney or someone else (I hope), the die will be cast and we will all suffer the consequences of our decision. That is when the real discussion will begin followed by finger pointing and blame, real or imagined.
Actually, there have been reports in some of the press that Obama is selling out America with China.
It also makes one wonder about the 11 Secret Service agents recently charged in Columbia. What did/do they know which made them so expendable?
