Rubio working on GOP version of DREAM Act to let younger illegal immigrants stay
CNSNEWS.COM ^ | April 3, 2012 | Edwin Mora

CNSNews.com) - Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) says he is working to craft an alternative version of the DREAM Act that would allow younger illegal aliens who came to the United States "through no fault of their own" to stay here legally and, if they wished, get in line to become a citizen.

"There is nothing that prohibits them from getting citizenship,” Rubio told the Tampa Bay Times in an April 3 interview in which he explained his plan. “We just don't create a new pathway. The bottom line is they would have a visa of some sort and like they and any other visa holder in this country can get in line and apply for residency. You have to wait in line but you get to wait in line in the U.S. legally.”

“They would be here living, studying, working, while they're waiting in line,” Rubio said. “We have a broken legal immigration system. Someone would say, 'Well it's going to take them forever to get residency.' Well, that's true of anybody. The system has to be modernized but that's a separate topic. It doesn't create a pathway to citizenship directly but doesn't prohibit them from entering the regular pathway."

Like it or not, it is 2012. It is not smart to alienate a major voting block that represents over 40% of the population. There is much to this that you do not understand.

We are talking about legally qualifying for citizenship, not full blown amnesty or a free ride like the Democrat plan suggests. Sooner or later, we have no other choice than to deal with it.

Rubio believes that when you get sent back to Mexico that you are being punished.

Still, on a world scale, Mexico is one of the better places to live.

[Good God. 80% of Americans are against the Dream Act. Do the Reps really believe this will get them more Hispanic votes?]

LOL, don’t assume that the rest of America thinks like you do. Get out more often and discover that for yourself.

Newt wanted to keep the old ones. Maybe Newt and Rubio can get together and devise a plan to keep all of them. LOL

The general public overwhelmingly favors immigration reform. Poll after poll shows that Americans want well-enforced, sensible, and sustainable immigration laws.

•59% of likely voters believe that the “policies and practices of the federal government encourage illegal immigration.” Only 23% disagree (Rasmussen, September 2011).

•72% of likely voters believe parents should be required to prove they are legal residents when registering their child for public school; only 21% oppose such a requirement. Only 32% believe that children of illegal aliens should be allowed to attend public school in the U.S., opposed to 53% who disagree (Rasmussen, August 2011).

• 81% of likely voters oppose granting in-state tuition to illegal aliens in their state, with 12% supporting tuition breaks for illegal aliens (Rasmussen, August 2011).

• 66% of likely voters say that gaining control of the border is more important than amnesty for illegal aliens. Only 27% believe amnesty is more important (Rasmussen, July 2011).

• 43% of Americans believe that immigration to the U.S. should be decreased, 35% believe that it should be remain at its present level, while only 18% believe that it should be increased (Gallup, June 2011).

• 61% of likely American voters "believe that a child born in the United States to a woman who is here illegally should not automatically become a U.S. citizen" (Rasmussen, April 2011).

• 54% of likely voters oppose the DREAM Act, compared to 38% who support its passage (Pulse, November 2010).

Any plan that does not kill all incentives to illegally trespass into the US is doomed to fail.

LOL! This is like waiting in line at the movie theater where you're actually inside the theater while the movie's playing munching your popcorn from a good seat. I'll try that next time I go; walk past the ticket counter, grab my popcorn, go have a seat, and when the usher shows up, I'll tell him I'm in line out front.

Send this Cuban anchor baby back to his parents’ homeland. He will do good working for the Castros.

No fence and security is going to be a strong enough deterrent to offset the lure of the goodies Rubio wants to deliver.

There is much to this that you do not understand.

What part of illegal alien do I not understand? Skin tone racial politics is for the Demon Pary, and has absolutletly no place in the Republican Party. If somebody isn't going to vote Republican over this issue then screw it, the republic is finished and it needs to collpase. Skin tone, skin, race blah blah blah

I have an alternate proposal. We grant illegal immigrants and their immediate family legal residency status on the following conditions:

1.) They give the names and locations of at least four other illegal immigrants, and cooperate fully with efforts to round up and deport those people.

2.) Each illegal identified and deported beyond #4 will result in an incremental decrease in the amount of time one has to reside here legally before applying for citizenship.

3.) Each illegal counts only once in having their name turned in. First come, first served — whoever first names a given illegal gets to count that person toward their four.

4.) Incorrectly identifying someone as an illegal when they aren’t will result in disqualification.

5.) You are ineligible if someone else identifies you as an illegal before you submit your first four names.

I would love to watch this in action.
