Long-time conservative activist Richard Viguerie suggested today that Newt Gingrich suspend his campaign and endorse Rick Santorum in order to unite conservatives against Mitt Romney.
"Looking at last nights numbers, it has become increasing clear that the former Speaker can either be a kingmaker or a spoiler," Viguerie said in a statement today, "because, to unite conservatives, Gingrich would have to suspend his campaign and endorse Rick Santorum for the Republican nomination for President." Viguerie argued that Romney must lose the nomination in order to prevent "the debacle of four more years of an Obama presidency."

Newt is flat out lying.
Santorum finished last (4th) in ONE STATE, and ONE STATE ONLY (Nevada). In a six-man race, he finished 4th in NH AHEAD OF GINGRICH.
Meanwhile, Gingrich has finished 4th or Worse in the following states: IOWA (4th) NEW HAMPSHIRE (5th) VERMONT (4th) MASS (4th) MICHIGAN (4th) NORTH DAKOTA (4th) IDAHO (4th) WYOMING (4th) ALASKA (4th) WASHINGTON (4th) MINESOTA (4th) MAINE (4th)
While Santorum's lone 4th place had NO Effect on Gingrich's final result in NV, it is CLEAR that several of the states listed above where Gingrich's vote total played spoiler to Santorum. This includes OH.
The statement just proves Gingrich is reverting back to his genuione phoniness and elevating his ego.
If not Santorum, it WILL be Romney.
Santorum hasn’t cost Gingrich a single state. Gingrich has cost Santorum two big ones.
Richard who? Who cares what he suggests. I doubt if Newt cares.
Shut up Richard. They all are staying in. I am sick of this commentary of this one or that one should drop out. It is taking away from the message. In stead of concentrating on Newt dropping out, why not talk about how crappy Romney will be as a President. That is enough for you to talk about for days upon days.
RICK WON NO PRIMARY STATE ANYWHERE BEFORE LAST NIGHT.
THAT is what Newt said and it is TRUE! PRIMARIES is the key word.
Look at the delegate count that proves it, or do you do that? Rick lags.
Newt has PLEDGED DELEGATES. Rick thought this was about winning state popular votes, with caucuses full of UNPLEDGED!
Hillary made that mistake.
Get informed, and hurry.
I gotta confess - I am a Newt fan. He is brilliant in the debates, and I see him as a guy who is qualified and could get the job done.
However, his “victory” speech last night was sad. He sounded like a washed-up fighter recounting his glory days. Way too long go over details that no one remembers or cares about.
Callista is way too robotic and doll-like. Looks like someone who would not want to muss up her hair.
His $2.50 gas thing may be correct, but it smacks of desperation. Reminded me of Bob Dole’s last second “15%” buttons, saying he would cut income taxes by 15%. Too little, too late.
Also, how many people were in that room with Newt during the speech? Must have been dozens.
Richard is long on advice and short on arithmetic.
Delegates do the nominatin’, not supporters. Rick loses to the strategic genius, the Newtster, who leads in PLEDGED delegates.
Game On.
No, YOU GET INFORMED
Unlike you, I passed math class. You can play this soft/pledged/hard delegate bullcrap all you want. Facts are facts and the fact is that Santorum has more strength and momentum emerging from Super Tuesday and that he has finished ahead of Newt in all but 4 of the 25 contests so far and indeed has MORE DELEGATES than Newt.
Santorum HAS 165 Delegates. Newt HAS 106 delegates.
When you can make a logical argument about how Newt wins Seniors, Hispanics, and Women in the General Election without getting blown out, and can offer a county-by-county breakdown of the voting demographics showing where he’s going to pick up the votes he needs to be compettive, then I might listen.
The clock is running out, Newt. Don’t say you are taking Santorum’s advice. Until Super Tuesday there was time to play it all out and have everyone stay in.
10 states went for it last night. Newt cannot seal the deal. Bravo for Georgia, but he couldn’t get votes outside of his state. It is OVER for him and he will only be whitening Mitt’s teeth, helping him bungee his dog to the roof of the limo, from here forward. I think it’s time to face facts. If we want to be NON ROMNEY, we need to get behind Santorum. If Newt were 2nd today, I’d take the Santo sticker off my car and push for Newt.
You can like Newt the best. He’s the best speaker with the best vision. But he is not able to get votes. Let’s try and fight the Inevitable Rominee, please?
Gingrich’s ego won’t allow it. If he didn’t drop out after much of his staff left him for Perry last July, why would he drop out now?
Tell Hillary your troubles, genius.
After all we are conservatives and don't give a damn about the past, couldn't care less about the people whose hard work helped create the conservative movement, and wouldn't give two-cents for the advice of a person whose loyalty and dedication to the conservative cause are almost unequalled.

People, this is true. Gingrich’s voters gave Ohio to Romney. Even 1/4 of them, probably all the cheerful OH FReepers early on yesterday’s thread, could have stopped Romney’s win in OH.
if you don’t want Romney, we must unite behind Santorum. If you hate him that much, we WILL have Romney. But you are choosing to hate a true conservative family man who will rise to the occasion and steward, as our employee, the presidency.
Newt has now proven that he is about Newt, not the country. I will eat that statement if he drops out in the next 10 days.
Your correaltion to 2008 is irrelevant.
The Democratic Party had about 1,800 Superdelegates. The Republicans have about 130. When Obama won more states and caucuses despite a virutal tie in the popular vote, they fled Hillary for Obama. And the GOP Superdelegates would do the same thing for Romney if his lead and wins are still significant.
As for contests, Hillary got delegates, Obama just won more, especially through the Caucuses where Team Clinton wasn’t anywhere near as organized late in the game because they thought the nomination would be sewn up early.
And lastly (but most importantly), Hillary released her delegates on the convention floor allowing them to vote for Obama.
It is obvious FR doesn’t care either. Too bad. Gingrich will put Ronney into the nomination. . So the two cover boys will no doubt shake hands and the Establishment will have beamed in tahe New World Order.!
If you guys want to close down this nomination for the Republican myth, keep on wishing someone drops out.
It has taken all three of our candidates to slow Romney.
Once Paul drops out, his delegates go to Santorum? LOL!!!!!
Once Newt drops out, his delgates go to Santorum? LOL!!!
You want to give Romney fewer opposition figures to shoot at, save him fewer dollars expended in smearing them, and instead give him more money, consolidation and coalescing than you can deal with?
It takes all three of thse guys staying in to be able to even HOPE to make it to convention.
Besides, nothing changes the math that Newt remains today ahead in pledged delegates, who still do all the nominatin’. :)
