Michelle Obama is likely bathing in fat-free yogurt and lathering herself with organic beets now that her husband's nanny-state regime is blueprinting revamped nutritional standards for foods that children can buy outside -- no, not inside -- the cafetaria.
If confiscating a four-year-old girl's turkey sandwich and force-feeding her broccoli and turnips isn't effective enough, better go for the vending machines -- you know, just in case:
Nutritionists say that school vending machines stocked with potato chips, cookies and sugary soft drinks contribute to childhood obesity, which has more than tripled in the past 30 years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that about one in every five children are obese. No details of the proposed guidelines have been released, but health advocates and snack food and soft drink industry representatives predict that the rules will be similar to those for the governments school lunch program, which reduced amounts of sugar, salt and fat.
But, you know, considering students reportedly eat 19 percent to 50 percent of their daily food at school, it would be inhumane for the government not to regulate their intake. I mean, come on, we need our Oceanic youths healthy and fit -- and, preferably, brainwashed -- before Orwell's fictitious and seemingly farfetched Ministry of Plenty actually becomes reality.
Middle Schoolers Fed Up with Menu Students Stage 4-Day Lunchroom Boycott...

Send in the national guard! The children are rebelling against Comrade Moochelle!
Some “underpaid” teacher is going to make a good ammount of extra money with a Candybar/Soda black market!
The soft drink industry won't like it.
Further, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also estimate that about one in every one current First Ladies are obese.
I dont either, but the feds shouldn’t be involved in the decision.
I think I had vending machines in high school, but they were locked during school hours.
Time to distribute some free decals reminding the minds of mush that it is the messiah who is forcing them to eat dried-up granola bars instead of what they want....
If you take the Federal Government’s stolen money, you will be forced to pay for that indiscretion, certainly.
End the obesity epidemic! Encourage smoking!
Did you actually read that story?
Not sure how kids boycotting their menu amounts to “rebelling against Comrade Moochelle!”
Sounds more pro Obama agenda to me...
During my high school days (late 60’s) the only vending machines sold apples, oranges and milk. Girls had to wear dresses and the vice principal carried a ruler to make sure the boys’ hair did not extend more than one inch past the collar.
If you were caught chewing gum in my all male drafting class, it was twenty pushups - the teacher was also the wrestling coach and former NCAA discus champ who stood for no nonsense.
Somehow we survived.
uh...what?
Forget the teachers. The kids will do it themselves.
I wouldn’t have any problem with this if it was done on a state level. Kids can bring whatever their parents pack in a sack lunch but I can’t complain about the State not being the one that wants to push junk food on our kids.

Local school boards do exactly what these days? They can’t have any say in running the schools.
I guess the chocolate milk and cookies we had in grammar school when I was a child are a thing of the distant past now.
