This has always been the chicken-and-egg question over unauthorized immigration. And the answer usually reflects where a person stands on immigration. Opponents are quick to argue that undocumented workers take jobs from the poor, while advocates respond most American workers dont want those jobs. Opponents come back suddenly advocates for labor unions and decent wages that unemployed workers would snap up the jobs if they paid better. The advocates point to the fact that these are often back-breaking, dirty jobs that even desperate unemployed workers would never touch. Opponents reply that some of those jobs arent all that bad. Besides, the opponents argue, there the public costs schools, hospitals, prisons to which advocates answer that undocumented worker contribute more in taxes than they receive in benefits.
The argument goes on and on that no ones satisfaction. Both sides often will wrap their arguments in science, providing evidence that seems to make their points. My bias, of course, is usually on the side of the advocates. Their research is more rigorous and comprehensive, though I admit I've been impressed by some of the evidence opponents point to. The Center for Immigration Studies is often quoted in the press as a foil to more immigrant friendly academia, yet they are tied informally to Numbers USA an organization that doesnt even like legal immigrants.

I agree with you.
Unauthorized immigration, huh? Try ILLEGAL.
Unless these illegals are somehow magically living in America without using any of our taxpayer funded infrastructure, I’d have to say that they have a negative impact on our economy.
They don’t even need to vote to create new congressional districts and all the resulting costs.
Exactly. And this is why the O figures he can force the Catholic Church to accept his position on birth control. The Catholic Church (and other churches) had best be careful what they agree to let the government take over. Hitler did the same thing to the Lutheran Church in the mid thirties
They are not undocumented. They are illegal. They are deliberately and premeditatively breaking the law over and over again every day they are in this country. They are not immigrants they are lawbreakers.
Most of them are NOT workers. Some may work and some even do the difficult and low paying jobs. But less than 5% of illegals are agricultural workers. If they came to this company just to work under a permit program and then went home when the work was done there would be no problems.
The fact is most are not workers, or are illegal workers who don't pay taxes who use false identities and social security numbers. They drive without licenses or insurance and if they kill or injure someone they are not liable.
They collect government handouts often under multiple false identities. They commit crimes and refuse give identities or to appear in court if arrested. They smuggle illegal drugs. They form the most violent and vicious crimminal gangs in this country.
They use medical facilities and refuse to pay for them. The money that they accumulate in the U.S. is often sent to foreign friends and relatives. They put a strain on charitable institutions and demand handouts.
They are not workers. The little they contribute is far outweighed by the damage that they do.
It could happen and it would be the compassionate thing to do. < / sarcasm >
“They dont even need to vote to create new congressional districts and all the resulting costs.”
California is your case in point. If not for the extra Democrat congressional districts created by illegal aliens 0bamacare would not have passed.
Sending money overseas is bad for the economy when US corporations do it, but it’s not bad when crimmigrants do it.
Let’s send them all home and find out!
Well, they do buy all those hot dogs at convenience stores at 7:00am while I pick up my morning coffee on the way to work.
Illegal immigrants don’t pay any income tax whatever. Most will get a nice, several thousand dollar EITC check from the fed if they are kind enough to file a tax return.
Sales tax is about it.
Free health care, education, food stamps, WIC, Section 8 housing subsidies, it all adds up to late model vehicles with chrome rims, baby.
These difficult jobs are held by illegals because employers are able to price the work below market rates because of the existence of illegals. But for illegals, the jobs would pay more. In effect the employers are using illegals to work as if they were almost slave laborers. By advocating against restricting illegal immigration and in favor of illegals continuing to hold these back-breaking jobs at inhuman pay, the Catholic Church is protecting slavery.
Poorly organized and argued, bad grammar. Wandering, weak ...
This must be the best the Church can do, as anxious as they are to add tithing members, subsidized by the rest of us.
It shows they must be having trouble finding good padres too.
Fail.
Illegal workers create a false economy. A vegetable farmer in Mississippi could never compete with vegetable farmers in Calif.
The fact that whenever there's a big roust of illegal immigrants at a meat-packing plant, there's a line around the block of Americans applying for those jobs says that assertion's a lie.
