This is not a RIP Whitney Houston thread, it's a "why the (bleep) did you interrupt the viewing of a kids' show to say Whitney Houston is dead"? First, we sat there thinking the President had been shot or something, I mean it was downright weird given how long it took them to get to the point, because we figured it had to be pretty important. Second, it's a kid show - I know you really want to be first to break the news, but really? Morons.

Yeah, I witnessed that Saturday night and I’m completely disgusted. It just underscores how “Lamestream Media” is hyperfocused on what it decides to call “News”. In this case, a really messed up singer, way past her prime.
Now all the networks are stumbling over each other to rush out programs about her fabulous life. Who really gives a rip?
Where did we fail her ?
Oh, I forgot...probably George Bush’s fault.

And so, the jokes start. Has Elton John finished the tribute song yet?
"Goodbye, cocaine's nose..."

The RTNDA (Radio Television News Directors Association) has an annual convention. They produce a ‘gag’ tape consisting of newscast bloopers from the last year or so.
I have a VHS copy of one from the late 80’s that has the song as its sound track.

The line that got me immediately the first time I heard it was:
Is the head dead yet?
Get the widow on the set.

I'm not a big Charlie Brown fan, but my kids were pissed! They didn't know who WH was and didn't care. A commercial appeared directly after the Whitney announcement. My kids asked why they didn't wait till then to announce the WH news.
A similar thing happened when we were watching "Horten Hears a Who" on ABC, with about 10 minutes left, the local affiliate broke in to announce the Death of Maggie Daley. Again my kids asked who is Maggie Daley and why do we care? They did this 10 minutes before the local newscast which would have made the announcement.

Well, we are dealing after all with the death of the woman who taught us that the “greatest love of all” is learning to love ourselves.
