President Obama’s latest policy outrage makes no attempt to hide his contempt for our military, as he is ordering that our troops serving overseas in war zones overseas are not to receive combat pay unless they are being shot at. A Marine who lives in Florida has just posted a note on Facebook which stated that he received a letter from his PayPal account that he would only be receiving his Hazard pay (Imminent Danger Pay) if he is actually in a hostile area and at risk of being Shot at.
So I just got a letter from MyPay (the way we get paid in the military), saying that I will only reason Combat Pay while deployed for the days that I take fire or am in a hostile area. Now, as an Infantry Marine, I’m constantly in a combat zone…it may not always be popping off, but for them to take that away from us is bullshit. Now, the aviation tech who sits on Camp Leatherneck, sure, I can see him not getting Combat Pay, but to take it away from the grunts, the ground pounders, the front line of defense…come on, Uncle Sam. I’m retired military. PayPal is NOT the vehicle for receiving military pay; comes through DFAS - Defense Finance and Accounting System. I believe his assertions need a second look.

While in Vietnam we counted on that $2.20 per day for getting shot at. Now our troops get the magnificent sum of $7.50 per day! Obviously, this is the cause of the trillions of dollars of debt the country is in!

This isn’t exactly correct; the change started on 01FEB2012 so IDP is now pro-rated. Areas eligible for IDP are (as they always have been) defined by lat/long or by entire countries. The issue in the past was that a person only had to spend part of one day in an area to collect pay for the entire month; many rear echelon staffers would hop a flight that skirted an area and get the bonus for an entire 30 days. It’s not accurate implying ‘one has to be shot at’ to get the pay.
Read the military.com article, and don't rely on the rants of patdollard.com.
As a veteran, I find the conditions to receive hazard pay reasonable.

I agree with this policy 100%! And the best way to make sure it works is to send a civilian government employee along on every patrol to see if any shots are fired. They would have to be up front because they’d have to check the bullets from both sides. Wouldn’t want to miss out on counting those bullets. They seem to want to count days.
