The way Ron Paul is treated by those who worshipped rove and Bush is beyond disgusting.

He has been 1000% correct on many matters over the years, and people still trash him.

Oh yeah, all these same people who trash Paul and want to convince us that the others in this race are “real” conservatives? Please.

If I lived in Va. I’d vote for Paul. Say no to Mitt.

What in the world makes you think that Paul could beat Obama in the general election?

Paul is not a conservative, he is a libertarian, a very different critter altogether. He doesn’t even belong in the GOP; they have a party of their own.

Ron Paul would peel off a lot of demos and independents and get a MASSIVE turnout by young people.

Gingrich and Romney cant and wont.

And if we “win” w Romney - what do we gain. if anything?

So? Gingrich and Romney are barely “conservative” themselves and both have huge problems.

I prefer Newt over romney of course, but RP is a lot closer to me on money and economics than the others.

Remember when Newt killed Ryan’s medicare plan, endorsed scozzafa, not so long ago?

And Romney? Geeeze, what a disaster.

I think the idea is we want the Paul people to come out and vote for our guy and not stay home, sulk and get stoned (or go third party).

The Paul people, btw, that I know personally are not stoners. They include a former Marine, a successful investment counselor and a small-businessman plumber.

Sarah Palin has been saying very nice things about Paul. Sarah is smart.

Paul is not going to be the nominee.

OTOH, if this thing does go to convention, Paul will have his delegates to dispense.

I guess you miss the irony. Remember when Paul voted against Ryan's medicare plan and endorsed Cynthia McKinney and Ralph Nader not long ago?

None of these people are perfect an RP says and does some things I wince at, but over all, issue by issue - he is closest to where I am.

Has Newt even proposed cutting spending?

Has Newt even proposed cutting spending?

Newt is the only one who has a track record of actually doing it. Remember, he forced Clinton's hand through a government shut down and actually gave us our only balanced budget in the past century. An actual record of doing something is better than someone who talks a lot but has zero record of accomplishments...and yes, he has called for a similar plan as he had in the 90s to cut spending down to a balanced budget.

http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2011/07/newt-gingrich-estimates-budget-could-be-balanced-in-5-years/

In most jobs, you hire the person with a record of success, not the person who just 'believes' things. Anyone can believe and talk, few can do. (unless you are hiring a Commander in Chief of the US Armed Forces solely to make square dancing a folk are- one of Paul's only legislative accomplishments in his decades in office).

I agree. I like Newt and am beyond words how upset I am at what has been done to him.

With Romney you get socialism with an R after the name, with Newt you get old school politics, with Paul you get a prez with a single issue right with chaos on other issues and surrender politics on world affairs.

I think that Newt sees the bigger picture. Newt being a historian, sees a chance to man up to the position and become one of the all time great presidents. He knows that like Reagan, he would be remembered for his accomplishments rather than his checkered past, which, I think, is what appeals to him about the presisdency. His own place in history.

I can live with paul, santorum, or Newt.

Romney is a piece of trash and is the white Obama. There is not once inche between them.

Even after the Obama slime machine goes to work? Most of what RaceBannon called out in post no. 4, and plenty more, will splashed across every tv screen in the country if Paul is the nominee. In spite of those issues on which Paul is 100% right, there is so much that he's said (or tacitly endorsed) that is repulsive to Americans, I just don't see the massive shift happening that you envision.

Not only is RoPaul for legalizing drugs, he teamed up with Barney Fag to promote this idiocy.

This election cycle?

Definately. After everything we did in 2010, has it really come to the point where its Obama and Myth?

The game is rigged and we are screwed royally if its myth or obama.

Ron Paul is far from perfect - but understand - even if he were elected - he would never get everything he wanted.

so if he got 50% of what he wanted - it would be drastically better than anything we can hope from myth or thugbama.

As for Newt - I like him, prefer him over Romney and Santorum and would easily campaign for newt or Santorum.
