A Judge has ruled that the ballot will stand as is for the Virginia primary with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney as the only candidates in the presidential primary.
In a 22 page ruling the Judge basically said that the Plaintiffs: Perry,Gingrich,Santorum,Huntsman waited too long to file their request for an injunction.
The Judge said: In essense, they played the game, lost, and then complained that the rules were unfair, Judge Gibney pulled no punches here: They knew the rules in Virginia many months ago; the limitations on circulators affected them as soon as they began to circulate petitions. The plaintiffs could have challenged the Virginia law at that time. Instead, they waited until after the time to gather petitions had ended and they had lost the political battle to be on the ballot; then on the eve of the printing of absentee ballots, they decided to challenge Virginias laws .The traditional purpose of a preliminary injunction is to prohibit an action. Preliminary injunctions are meant to protect the status quo In this case, the plaintiffs request that the Court require the Board to add their names to the primary ballot, which is a positive act that alters the status quo.
In essence the judged looked at the LAW, and ruled on the LAW, and didnt practice activism. Fantastic. If people do not like the ruling they need to change the LAW in Virginia!

You are right I don’t have a clue, and apparently neither does Perry or Gingrich.
Ron Paul can't win but if he gets enough support he will run as an Independent and be a spoiler. That will reelect Obama. You should rethink your advice.
We don't know if he met the standards the judge thinks exists.
On the other hand we do know that Mullins and Bolling are bedside bunnies with Mitt and the Mittbots, and apparently so is the Governor, and probably others.
Their running dog lackeys changed the rules regarding what signatures needed checked AFTER Mitt got 15,000. Everybody knows that if he'd had 10000 the rule would have been 10000.
Sorry, Cheaters Never Win and these pukes are OUTTA VIRGINIA POLITICS FOR LIFE.
Not a one of them can run for office again without serious harassment, and that ever present public question ~ properly lodged, about "Well, Governor, how do we know there's any integrity in your campaign ~ you cheated for Mitt and deprived Virginia voters of any choices in the primary".
And it won't be just Republicans raising the issue ~ there are these critters called Democrats and I am very certain THEY will use the issue.
It certainly has more substance than "Macaca"!
If the goobers screwing up the Republican party operation in Virginia want to do that TELL US and we'll DO WHAT IS NECESSARY to make sure the goober's and their wet hair candidates don't get onto the ballot as Republicans.
Frankly, the Republican elite in Virginia CHEATED.
It’s your fault ~ not theirs. You people owe it to the rest of us to FIX THE LAW by Thursday. Else, ...............
We are witnessing the most corrupt political process in the history of the nation.
We have not had the degree of lawlessness at the Federal Government since the Civil War.
Total disregards for the Constitution and the Rule of Law.
The Left’s “end justifies the means” mentality.
Total insanity is present my friend.
Long hard row this year.
Arthur H. Bremer has been loose ~ they watch for him in Maryland so I wouldn’t expect any problem there, but the Virginia elite have certainly attracted the attention of folks like ol’ Art there and the other 400,000 madmen on the Secret Service list.
In that case, vote for Paul to keep Romney from getting the delegates.
Romney will not carry Texas.
Take that to the bank.
I doubt that Ron Paul will either, even if Rick were to pull out.
If Rick Perry is still in the race when the Primary takes place in TX he will carry the state.
This kabuki dance is a long way from over, in spite of what is said on TV.
It makes me ill thinking about the talented people who would make a great president who will never run for any public office because of the brutal treatment of any who try to stop this.
The problem these guys had was not someone forgetting to sign up.
Even though they both may have had the required number of voters on the Virginia GOP required petitions, they missed by having some of their workers NOT being registered Virginia voters, a requirement that seems to have been changed less than 30 days before the deadline to submit petitions.
Both Romney and RonPaul have more or less continued running since 2008 and they had the ground team ready and running.
This whole thing has an odor of a fix being in for Romney.
Newt has lived in VA for ten years. I find it amusing that he could not get 10,000 signatures from registered voters with at least 400 coming from each of the 11 Congressional districts. The prospective candidates were notified about the rules in March 2011. They could begin collecting signatures starting July 1 and had until December 21 to submit them. Santorum, Huntsman, and Bachmann did not even bother collecting and submitting signatures.
If they are so incompetent that they can't get on the ballot in various states, they shouldn't be considered serious candidates.
I’d venture to say what you read is wrong. Pathetic to see adults making ‘dog ate my homework’ excuses like that for people seeking the most powerful job in the world.
Makes no difference.
It is what it is.
Blame it on whoever you want.
Never had someone misrepresent or try to scam you? Never heard of the Dim machine that infiltrates to wreak havoc with the "enemy"? Same happened to Newt - evidently one guy turned in 1,500 sheets with the same signature.
Why isn’t the guy who allegedly turned in all the bogus Newt signatures exposed and horsewhipped? There’s an interesting story here.
Newt and Perry both failed to get on. That tells you that there is a problem, and from what I have read, the problem is that they got snookered when the state decided to check signatures, where they had never done so before for a primary. They collected their signatures, turned them in, and then the state pulled a fast one, and disqualified a significant number of them.
What happened to the AG's efforts to fix the law so that they all could be on the ballot? Did that fail? He is a good conservative, and understood that the state needed to give Republicans a chance to vote for all the candidates, not just the establishment one and the Obama spoiler.
The point is, it is not a reflection on Newt or Perry that some underling failed to get the required signatures, even if that underling screwed up. You hire people and sometimes they mess up. A good leader fires the ones who are f-ups, and retains the ones who are good but who made a mistake, and then works to overcome the mistake.
"Even though they both may have had the required number of voters on the Virginia GOP required petitions, they missed by having some of their workers NOT being registered Virginia voters, a requirement that seems to have been changed less than 30 days before the deadline to submit petitions"...
Now THAT is curious...how was the change made, and why??
I don't really see it as a "fix" for Romney OR Paul, but if that's true, I would be mad as you-know-what if I were a Virginia voter...talk about disenfranchising the electorate!!
I know there is a desiRe to "winnow the field", but we ALL deserve to vote for the candidate of our choice, don't we?? Especially this early? We've only had Iowa and New Hampshire vote so far, and they are far from being truly representative of all the United OTHER States!
Yep.
So, we should vote for Romney then?
IMHO, a better idea would be to "boycott" the primaries IF in fact the rules for getting ballot petitions certified were changed arbitrarily or at the last minute.
Better yet, make a fuss of some sort, if your preferred candidate is "inelegible" through no fault of their own!
It just seems to me that it does not advance anyone's cause to vote for a candidate they don't support in the PRIMARY election, just because those were the only two choices...wouldn't that create a completely false situation?? FAR better to have a very low turnout, which would at least send a message from Virginia voters other than (take your choice) "we love Romney/we love Paul"!!
Just a thought! It's not like we're voting against Obama yet, but we need the best possible candidate choices to get to that, and now is not the time to be voting against anyone, simply because you're given a false choice!
If Paul or Romney is your man, then go for it in the primaries...otherwise, wait until there really ARE only two choices across the board...that will be the time to vote AGAINST someone, presumably Obama if you're here on FR... ;)
