During his 1984 campaign Ronald Reagan ran a thirty second television spot that very subtly highlighted the differences between his understanding of the threat of the Soviet Communists and Walter Mondales underestimation of the danger they posed.
The spot opened with a narrator saying There is a bear in the woods. As it progressed, a brown bear was shown wandering in a forest.
The full text was, There is a bear in the woods. For some people, the bear is easy to see. Others dont see it at all. Some people say the bear is tame. Others say its vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure whos right, isnt it smart to be as strong as the bear? If there is a bear
Twenty eight years ago Reagan was referring to the threat of Communist aggression, but the underlining message would be the same if it were run today.
Ron Paul and his supporters are willfully blind to the threat of Islamist terror. Some of them like Paul himself insist they dont even see the bear of terrorism.
Others from the slightly saner wing of Pauls basement dwellers look at the Islamists and want to negotiate with them. They see errant European cousins who have just temporarily lost their minds Nazis and Fascist come to mind.
These useful idiots want us to take a nice sounding live and let live position towards the lunatics in the Middle East who hate us and want us dead just because we are alive. So, one group doesnt see any danger and the other represents total danger. Its hard to figure which of these groups is ultimately more of a threat to Americas future.

Now there is a Panda bear in the woods. But it really a dragon behind the friendly Panda mask.

BEWARE - it’s addicting. Once you start watching these old ads you’ll be watching for a hour or more.
Some of us “idiots” recognize the Islamic threat but think that the government debt is the biggest problem that we currently face. The debt is growing exponentially. It’s getting worse at a faster pace. Soon it will be uncontrollable if it isn’t already. There are serious doubts that any of the other candidates will truly address the problem. It was hardly mentioned in the last debate.
What kind of a foreign policy will we have when we become Greece?
In the meantime, what good is this name calling doing us? I thought that was just a liberal tactic. I guess not.
The biggest bear & the most dangerous bear in the woods is the US govt’s political elite that think our sons and daughters were born to be the police of the world. Maybe if people start actually reading the bible instead of just using it for table decoration, they would understand the true principles set by our founding generations regarding wars overseas.
That bear took a shit in the woods, the result of which is in the White House today.
after reading this... I just had a vision of a medieval knight standing abreast a mountain pass .... women and children retreating to safety behind him as he stands and faces forward sworn drawn across his chest and shield...in front of him rise a dragon and myriad animals and beasts intent on all their destruction...as I type others come to his aid settling into their stance, some gripping hands to forearms, others clasping shoulders...each grim in determination to defend against attack ...what do they defend....Liberty
