I guess the real reason he surged is because he got some endorsement from some religious leader, right? Well, I’m sure that random Iowan religious guy will propel Santorum right to the top of the polls in every state and on to the nomination. /sarcasm

He is surging because it is his turn. The media and other hacks have not had a change to tear him down yet.

Good timing on Santorum's part.

I don’t know Santorum, but considering the fact that I know Ron Paul, Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich all too well, that might be a good thing.

It seem you have trouble with complete sentences, or thoughts.

One of the problems is that it was precisely the House GOP establishment that, embarrassed by Gingrich’s success, undermined him and tossed him in response to the Dems’ trumped up charges. From what I have read, Boehner was very involved in this, along with a couple of others who are still in government. They thought Gingrich made the GOP House look “confrontational” and “extremist” because Gingrich actually did what it took to get conservative programs enacted.

So the GOP itself has basically been smearing Gingrich for many years, and this is going to be hard to overcome. If he’s less popular among older people, that’s why. Their minds were poisoned against him by people like Boehner decades ago, and he needs to convince them to take a look at the reality of the situation.

If Santorum wins, we’ll now learn that Iowa is too white, and not representative of the REST of the country.

Get ready for it.

"Glad to see Perry not doing well. The pandering to illegals and depth in which he is out of touch on that issue is a non-starter."

Perry has said, in answer to the question on illegal immigration, to close the border first and then have the conversation on what to do with those in the country illegally already. Thats what the people want.

And he is right, thats what the people want. Close the border first. What has your favorite candidate said on the issue?

Perry won’t be dropping out after Iowa. Look for him to be in the mix in those southern primaries.

The margin of error for the survey is +/-2.7%.

ANY of the top three could actually be in the lead, then.

Perry is as corrupt and hypocritical as they come. Doubled Texas’ debt, then “balanced” the budget through federal money and accounting gimmicks all the while running on a platform of balanced budgets and downsizing Washington. A crony capitalist on steroids. Sorry, but I don’t want this man anywhere near the federal government.

The favorable / unfavorable questions are interesting.

Candidate Favorable Unfavorable
Ron Paul 43 51
Newt Gingrich 40 54
Michele Bachmann 52 37
Jon Huntsman 27 53
Rick Perry 52 39
Mitt Romney 48 44
Rick Santorum 60 30

Newt and Paul have relatively strong unfavorables.

Romney is split evenly between favorables and unfavorables.

Bachman and Perry do better in favorables vs unfavorable.

Santorum shines in that comparison.

“And since Huntsman has no prayer, that leaves only one candidate with a solid conservative record and the right kind of experience with the funds and organization to win-Rick Perry.”

Seriously ? Perry’s polling is higher than Huntsman ? Those of you who are still sitting here pining away for Gov. Perry are wasting valuable time. This kind of blind foolishness is going to sink us all. Huntsman is the only anti-Romney candidate that can beat Obama. No negatives, an extremely strong conservative record and the president is immune from making foreign policy criticism or the kind of personal attacks he favors against someone he vouched for by appointing him to an extremely important and sensitive post.

How about the “Roemer Rally?” I like that better.

But really, if Santorum wins, I’d be thrilled. He’s the only candidate up there who has made any kind of lasting impression on me. I still remember his fantastic answer on abortion in the event of rape: why take the life of an innocent child that has done nothing wrong? Isn’t it bad enough that one innocent life - the woman’s - has been ruined?

Myth Romney would piss his pants and start talking about the private sector in the same situation.

That is also who Romney is rooting for. If Santorum wins and Romney comes in second, Rick doesn’t make it out of Iowa (zero organization or appeal to Independents/moderate Dems) and Mitt is home free...
