Makers Mark is a bourbon, not a scotch, Lily. Are you sure you want to buy him scotch?

Makers Mark while a whisky is not a Scotch. The term sort of implies the whisky is made in Scotland.

Johnnie Walker Black, or if he likes single malt, Glenfiddich.

he'll say that it is okay but not great. I have no idea what is good in this price range
Did you lose your way? Check out your local liquor store and ask them what is good w/in your price range.

best scotch is single malt, IMHO, and Glenfiddich ranks one of my favorites — great sippin’ whisky.

I am afraid that you are confused. Makers Mark is a bourbon whisky, NOT a scotch. Bourbon and scotch are very, very different tasting.

Ok, this really has nothing to do with your question but ok maybe.
I would love to enjoy a nice drink in the evening. Is scotch the sort of apartife that would be good?
Is it a drink enjoyed listening to music in front of the fire?
I really don’t have a clue here.
Be genteel in your slamming of my drink ignorance,

Give him a gift certificate to BEVMO. With eighty bucks he can buy three bottles of pretty good Bourbon or Canadian or Irish or Scots Whiskey. Not a great bottle but a good bottle. You can’t go wrong by letting him buy it himself Lil.

and as the other have said a single malt is your best bet, not a blended scotch whiskey. Glenlivet and Glenfiddich are both very good but taste a bit different. Gelnfiddich is a bit darker and more rich flavor.
You might also try a smaller distillery but stay in the single malt area.
Good luck and you sure are a nice wife!

I would get Cana de Flor Rum, either the 10 year and the 18 year. Whoops, you said Scotch. Well I would just say the Scots are so intelligent they had to invent this rum and so all would be well.
In any case have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year.

Strictly depends on his tastes. Isla Scotches are extremely peaty and strong. Lowland Scotches are mild. Highlands Scotches are in between. I would suggest “Highland Park”, it is an annual award winner and quite lovely.
