I am needing some help in buying a gift for my husband please. I have about $80 left to spend for this christmas gift. He knows the other gifts he is getting and I would really like to surprise him with this one. I know he would love a good scotch. Money has been very very tight until about a month ago and the best scotch I have seen him ever buy is Makers Mark but he'll say that it is okay but not great. I have no idea what is good in this price range. I read a prior post and it gave few price references. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much & Merry Christmas to all!
A male friend of mine recommends Lagavulin.
Yes, yes!! LOL!! So I’m scrolling down the headers looking at topics and hits, which average about 10-20 per, and then “Please help me buy scotch whiskey”. Boom, over 100 hits. LMAO! And funny at that, too.
I can’t afford Mcallan but would love to try a sip of Macallan 1926! (around $58,000 per bottle)
I’m a Dewars girl but another good single malt is Bomar.
Since you mentioned he likes Maker's Mark, you might consider getting him the Maker's 46 bourbon ($35.99) AND buy him a bottle of a blended Scotch that might even include a neat gift, like a pair of tumbler glasses, such as the Dewar's 12 Special Reserve Scotch Gift Set for $27.99 (or for members, $25.99....bottle looks like this
)
or the Johnnie Walker Black Label Gift Set
Other Single Malt Scotch choices are:
Glenfiddich 12 YO gift set ,
or The Glenlivet 12 YO gift set or Glenmorangie (rhymes with orange-y) gift set, for a few single malt Scotch options.
If he has a bit of a sweet-tooth, I can personally recommend the Highland Queen Majesty 12 Year Old single malt, which I believe is the Glenmorangie 10 with 2 additional years in the cask to mature, and it picks up some very nice flavors and scents.
I believe you mean “Bowmore” Georgia Girl 2. Good choice one the Dewar’s, expecially if it is the 12 YO Special Reserve...or if you’ve got the coin, Dewar’s Signature.
Ask him for a sip of his and then ask him a few light questions like what he likes about it. Maybe he will tell you then what the kind he really likes is or at that point you can ask him his favorite kind. If you are a good actress hopefully he will not guess that you are fishing for answers for his Christmas present but just curious. If he gives you any clues write them down right away so you don’t forget them. Also, if he has a friend that might know more about what he would like you could ask him letting him know “mums the word”.
Big ping to the Dalwhinnie!
The gentle spirit.
Complex and no wheres near as bitter/biting as the lowland stuff.
If I’m out somewhere and they don’t have it, I will drink GlenLivet. But Dalwhinnie is the ONLY stuff I ever buy at the store.
And as good as it is, not all that pricey!
Glenlivit, GlenMorange or Glenfiddic are sure to please.
One might also consider a single malt “Irish Whiskey” such as Bushmill 10 year old. Jamesons (also Irish) makes a blended whiskey that is extraordinarly good.
by Michael Jackson and the Savage Beast!
Also it fits the budget.
I rarely venture onto these whiskey threads, dangerous territory. I personally prefer very strong peat and wood tones, which isn’t always so popular.
So my suggestion is to find a gift pack, especially the gift packs that combine several distilleries together to form a theme, such as Speyside sampler, and the Bruichladdich Wee Laddie Tasting Pack, this website has the best selection, but you can find it locally for cheaper I’m sure.
