My Time at Walmart: Why We Need Serious Welfare Reform
TheCollegeConservative ^ | 12/13/2011 | Christine Rouselle

During the 2010 and 2011 summers, I was a cashier at Wal-Mart #1788 in Scarborough, Maine. I spent hours upon hours toiling away at a register, scanning, bagging, and dealing with questionable clientele. These were all expected parts of the job, and I was okay with it. What I didn’t expect to be part of my job at Wal-Mart was to witness massive amounts of welfare fraud and abuse.

Try not paying your taxes for a while. Yes, they use guns.

Agreed. A little chubby in the arms, but pretty darned “Not Guilty!” in my book.

Where government assistance exists, fraud exists.

It exists in places like WalMart. It exists in grocery stores. It exists in support for moms with small children, hungry families, welfare recipients, housing subsidies, health care institutions...

I worked in a pharmacy where we had a lot of ‘former’ foreign nationals who came here on a refugee status. Once here, the elder people were placed on Social Security without working a day in their lives in the U. S.

People would come in with prescriptions all the time, with very flashy jewelery on. Large gold chains, expensive watches, expensive clothing, keys to expensive vehicles, the evidences of wealth were plentiful.

None the less, these people would flop a government card on the counter, and demand poverty rates.

I once observed a person pull a large roll of money out of his pocket to pay for an item. When he found out the item was going to cost him over $20.00, he put the money back in his pocket and flopped the government card on the counter.

When I registered to take some college courses, a student that I recognized as a member of the community of former refugee status folks, claimed poverty to get reduced tuition and book fees. The guy was well dressed, and had keys to an expensive type of vehicle.

As a nation, we are generous to the point of being destructive to ourselves.

I have also noted that there has been an absolute explosion of good causes, that advertise on television, through the mail, and in other ways. Many of these organizations are the pet projects of Liberals or Leftists.

It’s my take that a very large sum of expendable cash is being siphoned off this nation, to be used by the Left as they see fit.

Instead of investing these funds to create jobs, those funds are being burned off to spread the idea that the Left in the United States has a massive heart.

When you realize who actually donates, you realize the Left’s heart is quite shriveled.

All you’ve done on this thread is to write one line questions. What’s your solution?

You guys already spent your money. So yes, you’ve turned Social Security into a huge ponzi scheme, where you are collecting money off us so that you can get paid twice.

The sad thing is that once the system collapses, we’ll be on the hook for it all.

Thanks for thinking of us!

That's pretty astute. On what? (Watch the "you guys" crap. I'm not old enough for SS.)

what would be required for even the realistic solutions, don’t have a chance of happening because it requires govt to do something, and that ain’t happened yet, has it?

Which is another indication that welfare is a program designed to buy votes.

We might also consider $5000 cash rewards for turning in welfare cheats along with a lifetime benefits ban for anyone trying to game the system.....that might set night on fire....heh....

Exactly. No crap like soda and chips. No crap like TV dinners and other outrageously expensive frozen goods. Let ‘em buy flour, corn meal, powdered milk, raw onions, taters and as a bonus 59 cent pot pies from Aldi. I’m sure that there are some other like items they could buy.

Have a "free aisle" in grocery stores. Come and take as much textured soy protein, cooking oil, flour, salt, potatoes, powdered nonfat milk & wheat bread as you can carry. Everything else in the store - cash only, no welfare cards, food stamps.

Free food to survive but nothing but the basics.

Oh, so you aren’t a boomer then? That makes no sense at all.

Let’s see. Welfare, Unemployment benefits. All the pork infrastructure, bank bailouts. USAid, funding for planned parenthood, etc.

That’s where your money went. Now you’re spending ours. You spent your own already. Don’t ask for ours.

The system would have remained solvent if the boomers did as their parents did and had enough kids. Not only did you spend what you made, you didn’t have the kids, so the system is insolvent AND there’s no money left.

Medicare??? Excuse me, but Medicare isn’t a handout. The recipients have paid into that all their working lives. It isn’t an “entitlement.” You’re buying into the propaganda. It doesn’t belong in the “welfare” catagory.

Well, you post here to afford yourself a semblance of relevance

I do? Is that why I post here? Thanks for letting me know.

Do you post here for some really critical reason we should all respect?

Or are you just lashing out because I have a different opinion?

Let's hear it, lay it down Beanie. Do let's.

This was on another thread just yesterday, I think.

The Mormons run a welfare plan in similar nature to what you described. It actually works fairly well. Of course, some Freepers were denouncing it anyway.

Wem ust totally derail the gravy train.

We can build a new smaller train with a lot less passengers and passenger capacity (ie the truly needy), but the current train needs to be derailed and demolished.

I would bet over 80% on welfare now, would not qualify for being a true welfare case.
