Last night on Fox News candidate forum, Governor MItt Romney defaulted to quoting David Brooks from the New York Times. Theres why Herman Cains supporters will be looking at Gingrich and Perry.
In fact, last night a number of Cains Iowa staff moved to Rick Perry.
Rick Perry will get another look. He will get another look because while the grassroots and Republican voters in general are moving to Gingrich, conservative leaders around the country are rapidly running up their watch towers to light fires against Gingrich. They remember him from the 90′s and they dont trust him.
Rick Perry is going to get a second look. Jon Huntsman made the fatal mistake of branding himself too moderate. Hell get a look if people dont like what they see in Rick Perry.
This now raises a huge red flag: is Rick Perry ready for his second chance?
Im not sure Perry is ready. His debate performances have steadily improved. But there is a real problem for Perry. He needs to run a really flawless race and his campaign needs to send out some strong signals that they get it and will perform.
Rightly or, I hope, wrongly, I get the impression they still think it is their race. I think they still think they are biding their time. I think they still think they are fighting Kay Bailey Hutchison. I think if they dont wake up soon and shake up, they are toast.
Rick Perry is going to get a second look. He is the most consistent conservative in the race. In fact, this should be his race to lose given his positioning.
Well, at least they haven't sent money to a candidate who isn't even in the race anymore.
Good article. Thanks for posting.
What kind of "flat tax" has deductions? Sorry, you can call it a flat tax all you want to but it isn't one.
Right. And you know Perry is truthful.
I guess that's the latest fantasy we're going to read about incessently, even though you won't find evidence for a "good many" of anybody doing what you claim, much less "Perry supporters".
The distraction was how he handled the charges, not the charges. He just dropped out -- so apparently Cain himself found the charges and how he handled them too much of a distraction. Kind of odd to attack some other candidate's supporters for a decision made by the candidate.
I also have missed Perry supporters claiming there's nothing more to bring against him. It's like you are building straw men because it's easier to argue that way.
I would presume all our candidates, especially the strong conservative ones like Perry, will get attacked. It's how you HANDLE those attacks that is important -- like how Perry was able to easily deflect the "racist rock" story (except of course for Cain adopting it as a personal attack on Perry's "sensitivity").
Here's how the MSM will play that card in the general election. Back to back soundbites on any give topic from each where the postion is similar. That will be followed by "They even sound the same." Dems will use similar tactics with the banner, "Wasn't two Bushes enough?" Not fair, but #justsayin
All Rick Perry has to do is stand on stage with the “anointed” one and speak plainly.
I’ll take the truth, plain spoken, any day against the liar (who really is not an orator — please...) who has driven this country into the dirt on purpose.
All Perry has to do is point to Texas and then point to the Obama Administration and ask the American people for their vote.
Perry will be the nominee and he will go after Obama like each and every conservative is chopping at the bit to do.
And the voters will elect Perry in a landslide.
You’re welcome.
When your support goes from 30 something to less than 10 % and your donations dry up, you pretty much have no choice but to quit.
That is a result of conservatives being gullible idiots.
Don’t put the cart before the horse.
How did conservatives “HANDLE” the attacks? They believed them.
Once again, conservatives failed to circle the wagons.
How shocking.
Rick Perry deserves a second look. Republicans/Conservatives need to stop demanding we have a slick used car salesman as our nominee and look to a candidate who has some executive experience and knowledge.
In my opinion, that leaves Gingrich and Perry. Gingrich has a bad problem with making poor decision. That leaves Perry.
Remember, Cain had nothing but allegations made against him, and he's history...finished...gone!
The Left have succeeded in two ways:
1) They've proven that all it takes is allegations (with no hard proof) to cast doubts in the minds of voters...especially conservative voters
2) They've learned that that they can entice conservatives to join in their hit pieces if it helps the other “conservatives” candidate.
To those who cheered Cain's decision to drop out of the race; you did so not realizing this spelled our doom for 2012. The Left have succeeded in not only removing Cain from the race, but also proving that mere allegations are enough to destroy our candidates.
When "conservatives" decided to join in and accept the Left's allegations on Cain (Media hit-Piece) our fate was sealed. Perry and Newt are next. The Media taste blood in the water. We can blame no one but ourselves. I cannot believe we just handed them the victory in 2012.
Particularly grating to many of us is the superficial dislike of some to regional accents. Rick Perry has a west Texas accent, for heaven’s sake! I’d rather hear that than harsh New York or Boston accents.
If your choice of candidate is based on how they pronounce words, it’s your loss.

Charles,
Please talk to me in a few weeks when the media begin their assault on Perry. No matter what Perry does or says, charges will be made that he handled it poorly. It really won’t matter if the Left-Wing hit pieces are true or not; it will only matter how he handles it...right? Well, here’s a reality; a good many folks (with the media’s help) will observe that Perry’s not handling the allegations well. My guess is, folks like you and other Perry supporters will then resort to: “Yeah, but these are bogus allegations!” Remember, Cain wasn’t afforded the benefit if these allegations were true or not; nope, it was “how he handled the allegations” that really mattered...right?
As I said, the criteria that folks like you set for Cain will be Perry’s (and any other surging GOP candidates) doom.
I’m really looking forward to you using the same criteria when analyzing Perry. Somehow, I just know when the Left go after Perry it will “different.”
We are indeed screwed in 2012.
Exactly.
Perry’s opposition is working overtime to bury the facts about the surging Texas economy and Perry’s national policy rollouts.
He’s ready to pare back big government and many on both sides of the divide don’t like that one little bit.
The MSM has been brutal to Perry — they’ve made him out to be a mean, racist moron. It’s been so over the top, I’m surprised you’ve missed it. They had to “Quayle” him ASAP and not give him any traction. Well, now the rubber is going to hit the road again and conservatives are going to reassess Gov. Perry, look at his record, see what the Left has tried to hide and learn the facts.
While not a Rick Perry fanatic - and I live in Texas - here is how I see it.....
Rick Perry is for America.
Newt is for Newt.
Just sayin’......
