Remember, remember the Fifth of November. And remember to wear your mask! Your Guy Fawkes/"V for Vendetta" mask, that is.
No, Halloween is not over. You can keep wearing your costume into November, especially today, November 5th, Guy Fawkes Day. It's the trendy outfit to wear to your local Occupy protest. All the cool Guys and gals are wearing it.
And when you walk into your bank today to close out your account, and they look at you a little funny because you're wearing a mask, don't be alarmed, even if you start hearing an alarm! Just tell them you're one of the 99% protesting the evil bankst--uh, well, just tell them you're protesting something.
For the DUmmies, the Fifth of November is a sacred day, because (in their minds at least) it represents SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER, and thus fits perfectly with the OWSie movement. Of course, historically, it represents speaking GUNPOWDER to power, and it also represents an EPIC FAIL. But that doesn't matter. We've seen the Vendetta movie, and it was cool. I feel like such a rebel when I'm wearing my mask!
The original rhyme went:
Remember, remember the Fifth of November
Gunpowder, treason, and plot
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot
But for the DUmmies, I'm revising it:
Remember, remember the Fifth of November
DUmb power, seasoned with pot
I'm multitasking
My Guy Fawkes masking
"Occupy" takes Halloween's spot
Several threads to choose from. We'll look at this THREAD, "Remember Remember the Fifth of November," and this THREAD, "BBC: V for Vendetta masks: Who's behind them?" and this THREAD, "Why Guy Fawkes?" and this THREAD, "Remember, remember the 5th of November."
So let us now join the Bonfire of the Primitives, in Bolshevik Red, while the commentary of your humble guest correspondent, Charles Henrickson, remembering the Fifth of November as my late mother's 96th birthday and my daughter's 16th baptismal birthday, is in the [brackets]:
Remember Remember the Fifth of November
[Remember, remember the fifth of tequila . . .]
Idea: Guy Fawkes masks for everyone @ Occupy Wall Street on Nov. 5th
[Yes! That will bring those corporations TO THEIR KNEES!!]
Masks are illegal in NY, you'd be guaranteeing arrest . . .
[Oops!}
. . . while benefiting a major corporation. . . . every sale of one of those masks benefits TIME WARNER.
[Double oops!]
Every time an Anonymous protester dons a Guy Fawkes mask, Time Warner goes "ka-ching"
[Warners of Mask Production.]
it was just an idea. apparently, a poorly thought out one!
[That has never stopped the DUmmies before! No, I say GO with the masks! Go with Guy!]
if everyone is doing it, then it being illegal no longer really matters
[Yes! We'll get 99% of Americans to wear their Guy Fawkes™ masks on November 5th, and they can't arrest us ALL!]
You're never going to see that kind of critical mass down there.
[You WILL see a comical mess!]
If they wanted to make the same point while denying TIME WARNER their mask payday, they could use greaspaint--white, pink and black--and pretty much achieve the same effect. . . .
[benburch likes the idea of wearing makeup.]
besides, the whole guy fawkes mask thing is old. A friend of mine, worked as a chaperon at a home coming dance recently, several of the kids there were wearing guy fawkes masks because they thought it "cool". They had no idea other than v for vendetta who guy fawkes was.
[He's just some guy.]
V for Vendetta masks: Who's behind them?
The Chinese can't make them fast enough. . . .
[No fair Peking behind the mask!]
Remember, remember the 5th of November, pull your money out of the Greedy mega bank.
[Be sure to wear your mask when you walk into the bank!]
Why Guy Fawkes?
["Why Guy?" I cry!]
Sure, that's what we want to do: Blow up the president and both houses of Congress, create anarchy, and institute a theocracy.
[Picky, picky, picky. . . .]
The American idolizing of Guy Fawkes that started with the movie "V for Vendetta" is really starting to annoy me.
[Blame the Anonymous annoying-us hacktivists.]
Fawkes is a symbol of one person standing against the system.
[Taking it to THE MAN!]
he was just a pissed off guy. The movie, however, expropriated the image of the pissed off guy and gave it a deeper meaning.
[And thus, Pissed-Off Guy is the PERFECT symbol for the OWSies!]
He is the epitomy of a failure.
[You make my point.]
Happy Guy Fawkes Day! Penny for the Guy!
[Dollars for Time Warner!]
V for Vendetta
[V for Vodka. Remember, remember the fifth of vodka.]
And by the way: Remember, remember the NINTH of November! Wednesday will be Wee Willie Pitt's FORTIETH birthday!
I hope you are going to do something special for his big day.
LMAO...bring down the banks.
On a Saturday.
I cant remember yesterday much less Pitts birthday
Too much V for Vodka?
IIRC PJ once pointed out how dumb the mask looks without the rest of the V for Vendetta costume. I’m in complete agreement with that.
Under normal circumstances Guy Fawkes would be considered nothing more than a religious nutcase trying to install a theocracy. The irony is palpable.
Cindie
Top Fawkes 10!
Top 10?????
Woohooo, now I can go read my DUmmie Funnie!
Is that mary jane in her hand?
I'm convinced that it is.
.
Certainly looks like one.....and she’s proudly displaying it as well.
“Under normal circumstances Guy Fawkes would be considered nothing more than a religious nutcase trying to install a theocracy. The irony is palpable.”
I couldnt agree with you more. Do those people actually know what Fawkes was about? I would guess not. I wonder if they know how it all ended...?
Oh by the way, the fire works tonight have been great!!
Regards.
