SUMATRA, Indonesia Several earthquakes have struck near south Sumatra of the 5.0 and 5.1 magnitude range today- making a tense situation on the volcanically-dotted archipelago potentially even more volatile. The Anak Krakatau volcano is showing signs of increased seismic activity. Authorities fear the volcano is building towards an eruption that could dwarf the one which occurred in 2007. Indonesias Volcanology and Geological Disasters Mitigation Center reported the numbers of seismic tremors now registering from the volcano have exceeded 5,000 a day. There are also reports of a gaseous mist which has seeped from the volcano and have enshrouded it in a yellowish haze- something that has never been observed at the volcano before. Anak Krakatau was placed on orange (level 3) status alert on September 30, 2011.

Millions of degrees? Well, no one knows for a certainty, but estimates (of the hottest portions) pretty much max out at 7000c which is around 12,000f. Not even close to a million, but as still hot as Hades, no doubt.
My apologies.
.........it’s gonna blow...run away!
Uh well, Krakatoa is, or was, WEST of Java, Southeast of Sumatra.
No, it means Child of Krakatau.
I’m pretty sure when she blows I’m gonna end up with a splitting headache and ears that won’t stop ringing.
Interesting. With such frequent and heavy volcanic activity recently along with heading back into the minimum of this extended minimum, the weather will be interesting, indeed, in about 3-4 years. Thanks for the heads up. ...much work to do at over 9,000 feet.
Are you sure you want to know?
Late Pleostocene Human Population Bottlenecks. . . (Toba)
The last glacial period was preceded by 1000 years of the coldest temperatures of the Late Pleistocene, apparently caused by the eruption of the Mount Toba volcano. The six year long volcanic winter and 1000-year-long instant Ice Age that followed Mount Toba's eruption may have decimated Modern Man's entire population. Genetic evidence suggests that Human population size fell to about 10,000 adults between 50 and 100 thousand years ago. The survivors from this global catastrophy would have found refuge in isolated tropical pockets, mainly in Equatorial Africa. Populations living in Europe and northern China would have been completely eliminated by the reduction of the summer temperatures by as much as 12 degrees centigrade.
Al having a cow...I’d pay to see that. I have seen goats have kids, but never a man have a cow...
Thanks, blam. ...getting ready, right now, by putting a rock bed over the water line from the well (gravity-fed, six feet deep, runs down the hill). The rock bed will be covered and heat-able from the bottom.
He also survived long enough to commit suicide. Very sad when anyone does this.

“I hope you like cold weather...”
LOL, but not LOL at the same time. The first thing I thought about, too.
There’s another one in Bolivia: Uturuncu ....and it’s bulging vertically about one to two centimeters per year.
Rapidly inflating volcano creates growing mystery:

I’ve been buying up long underwear from Cabela’s and I live in Louisiana... ;)
If you’re on the West side of the range, there could be record snow falls! How do you deal with that?
Thanks for the links to the excellent articles. Keeping my eye on Katla as well and will be adding to my woodpile! ;)
