SUMATRA, Indonesia Several earthquakes have struck near south Sumatra of the 5.0 and 5.1 magnitude range today- making a tense situation on the volcanically-dotted archipelago potentially even more volatile. The Anak Krakatau volcano is showing signs of increased seismic activity. Authorities fear the volcano is building towards an eruption that could dwarf the one which occurred in 2007. Indonesias Volcanology and Geological Disasters Mitigation Center reported the numbers of seismic tremors now registering from the volcano have exceeded 5,000 a day. There are also reports of a gaseous mist which has seeped from the volcano and have enshrouded it in a yellowish haze- something that has never been observed at the volcano before. Anak Krakatau was placed on orange (level 3) status alert on September 30, 2011.

I don't think your recent 7.4 helped the situation much...

Krakatoa island exploded in 1883, killing approximately 40,000 people, although some estimates put the death toll much higher. The explosion is considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard nearly 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from its point of origin. The shock wave from the explosion was recorded on barographs around the globe.

A giant meteorite could hit Earth!
When Krakatoa explodes watch sea surface temps and the lower atmosphere temps drop considerably. Al will have a cow!

Well one thing I've learned over the years is that volcanos can be very dangerous. Did you know that not too far below the Earth's surface that the temperature is very hot? How hot? Hot enough to melt rock and I'm not kidding.
We are sitting atop an entire planet full of molten lava and someday we are all going to die.

How hot? According to Al Gore, it's MILLIONS of degrees!
And like only 2 miles below our feets.

GORE: People think about geothermal energy - when they think about it at all - in terms of the hot water bubbling up in some places, but two kilometers or so down in most places there are these incredibly hot rocks, ‘cause the interior of the earth is extremely hot, several million degrees, and the crust of the earth is hot ...

The Year Without a Summer (also known as the Poverty Year, Year There Was No Summer, and Eighteen Hundred and Froze to Death[1]) was 1816, in which severe summer climate abnormalities caused average global temperatures to decrease by about 0.40.7 °C (0.71.3 °F),[2] resulting in major food shortages across the Northern Hemisphere.[3][4] It is believed that the anomaly was caused by a combination of a historic low in solar activity with a volcanic winter event, the latter caused by a succession of major volcanic eruptions capped off by the
Mount Tambora eruption of 1815, the largest known eruption in over 1,300 years -
that killed over 100,000 people.
