Last December, GOP presidential contender Herman Cain penned an interesting article about Jesus Christ that has been resurrected (no pun intended) and is getting some attention in the blogosphere. Published just five days before Christmas, the piece claims that Jesus was “a perfect conservative” and that “he…changed the world for the better.”
In his article, Cain goes on to explain, though, the reasons why he believes that to be true. He writes:
He helped the poor without one government program. He healed the sick without a government health care system. He [fed] the hungry without food stamps. And everywhere He went, it turned into a rally, attracting large crowds, and giving them hope, encouragement and inspiration. For three years He was unemployed, and never collected an unemployment check. Nevertheless, he completed all the work He needed to get done. He didn’t travel by private jet. He walked and sailed, and sometimes traveled on a donkey.

For a very long time in America, churches were looked to as centers of mercy. Now many of those functions have gotten subsumed into government, with untoward side effects.
Can we please keep Jesus out of the political discussion?
He is king of another kingdom, and the fools in positions of power around the world are just getting the world ready for his final move.
Cain is just playing with words.
The Sadduccees and Pharissees probably aligned with liberals and conservatives, respectively.
Jesus was a “Truther” movement that had to do with his own birth credentials.

You and I are on the same page. When arguing with liberals I even sometimes call myself a “classic liberal”. That usually starts a conversation of its own. :-D

Reading “Road to Serfdom” was a bit of a trip,
because Hayek used the word “liberal” in its true sense,
not in the warped sense that the commuprogressofascists co-opted.
He could have expanded it even more and said that Jesus would not be OK with hurting the little ones as in the unborn.
He would not be OK with Gay marriage especially in Synagogues.
His cousin (John the Baptist) was put in Jail because he was against the immorality of King Herod. Liberals really don't care about that kind of stuff either.
The current demonstrations OWS are covetous in nature. Which is a commandment. Remember shall not covet?
As far as the Sanhedrin being conservative. They broke many laws in order to arrest and try Jesus unlawfully. They bent the rules to fit the eventual execution of Jesus. So do liberal courts "interpret" laws or do conservative courts do that?
I think a better word would be Populist which are people that have no moral convictions just going along with what they think the people want.
Last week we had “render unto Caesar.”
I was surprised to learn that Jesus was being asked if it is PERMISSIBLE to pay taxes, not whether it was good, or right, or required.
The lesson is merely that God is not offended when/if we pay our taxes.
Thank you for posting this. Even when I read this the other day, I completely agree with Cain. His reasoning is sound by pointing out to the CURRENT LIBERALS that personal responsibility, charity, and a moral ethic does not ever come from a government. Well said!
Jesus was in this world, but not of this world.
This is a great story to understand how much God loves us and his creation. The story is called Cain and Abel but it should be called Cain and God. The story shows God repeatedly reaching out with love to Cain even up to and including his punishment.
I am not so sure it was a ridiculous analogy.

Absolutely false. The Pharisees were liars and frauds. That's why in Matthew 23 Jesus refers to them as hypocrites (seven times), blind guides, fools and snakes.
They weren't "conservatives." Conservatives whether in the religious realm or the political realm, are looking for truth.

This probably one of the most egregious misinterpretations of Christ’s Ministry.
And I get sick to my stomach when I see people trying to use Christ for Political Gain. Cain is an embicile.
