The People of OWS: like the people of Wal-Mart, only not as smart

I’ve decided to perform a public service myself by highlighting the tragedy of OWS. Accordingly, I’m dedicating today’s post to the People of Occupy Wall Street (POWS). They’ll tell you in their own words how they came to be part of the 99%. A portion of all proceeds from today’s post will be donated to the 501(c)(9) charity, Graduates With Severe Economic Disorders. You can read their complete stories on the People of Occupy Wall Street website, where I’m betting you can make a donation too.

Here are the plights of just a few of the 99 percenters; I’ll let them tell you their stories in their own words:

Engineering is now considered a "dead end" job and it probably is.

Some engineering fields are dying for lack of opportunity but electrical, computer and other more technical, non-mechanical engineering fields are still good. So good that we need to import many from India to meet the demand, at least Rockwell Collins here in Iowa seems to.

I have a relative who graduated with a degree in psych. He realized it best prepared him to go back and get a degree in Computer Science.

Their theme song should be “White Punks on Dope” by The Tubes.

Looks as if *they* won't be going away any time soon: Madness: Four month permit granted to Occupy DC

I understand they were less patient in Boston.

ROFL!

At least he had the good sense to go "get a real major". I suspect that Miss Nosering may not be quite so sharp.

Agreed. A degree in Poli Sigh, Liberal FArts, Psychology, Art History, may land you a job... as a Starbucks Barista.

DC Government is insane. Remember that former Mayor Marion “Bitch Set Me Up” Barry now sits on the City Council.

College is a racket and a ponzi scheme if you go to major in anything other than the hard sciences, engineering, some really specific Business degrees, or Math. Other than that its a money racket for the fat cat Administrators for you to pay their luxury car note.

I got a Poli Sci degree from a quasi-Ivy League college, and soon wound up driving trucks, humping film production equipment, washing dishes, mowing lawns, basically whatever I had to do. Eventually, I earned my way to better employment.

No job is ever beneath you. These spoiled, lazy dopes get no sympathy from me.

Yes, Queen for a Day. Youtube it if you have never seen it. Probably the worst game show in the history of game shows. The winner was the women who told the most tragic story.

Yes - Math, Science, and Engineering are hard. That’s the point. Why pay to take something that is NOT hard. Just go to work right out of High School. Or go to “trade school” and learn how to do something useful.

There used to be no stigma for someone to work with their hands, but people don’t want to be welders, or mechanics, or restaurant workers, or machinery operators, or factory workers nowadays. It’s beneath them. It isn’t a “degree”.

The motto of the worthless Memphis City School system a few years ago was, “Every Child, Every Day - College Bound.” That’s just not realistic. College is not for everyone. Or at least it wasn’t until all these useless degrees were invented.

C’mon, Man! Get hold of yourself. I’m an Engineer (your age), and I’ve adapted - I now run multi-million dollar projects for a major corporation. It’s not “real” engineering, (I would love to get back to manufacturing) but with my ME background and mindset, it works well.

My Cousin got out-sourced and started his own fencing business. With his engineering background and work ethic, he’s doing pretty well.

For less than $20k, you can start your own digital T-shirt printing company out of your garage. With a web-site, you could stay busy and make pretty good money. Shake it off! There is nothing a good Engineer can’t do! We solve problems! Solve this one! Start something!

Don't they still teach Science Math Engineering, or some other degree that is in demand???

Yup, fortunately they sure do. Daughter just finished at Cal Poly last June, structural engineering, had a job 2 weeks later only 4 miles from her home with an engineering firm that she loves. In the Bay Area of California, no less.

What a hoot that they are arrogant enough to think that they represent 99% of this country in their 'demands', which are more like just complaints. They might share with many Americans the desire that the Wall Street folks who supported Obama, and got bailed out shouldn't have gotten bonuses, etc, but that was the fault of Chris Dodd, who helped craft that legislation. But the OWS folks support Democrats excusively, so how do they square that with their rhetoric? Despite their college educations, they seem clueless with regard to basic Economics. They keep decrying 'corporations' seemingly without any notion as to who exactly creates jobs in this country. Sure, corporations don't create all of them, small businesses employ the lion's share of Americans, but they do employ millions of the folks with college degrees.

At this point, though, they're simply parroting the liberal bromides of the groups that are paying for them to be there; ACORN, ANSWER, SEIU, MoveOn.org, etc.
