While watching the video of a group of “Occupy Atlanta” this past Saturday that instead I was watching instead something from out of a “Star Trek” tv episode and it is those feared aliens, “The Borg”. While USA House of Representatives John Lewis, (D/GA) was in attendance with members of the MSM or news media. Rep. Lewis, who was active in the American civil rights movement and is involved in liberal politics. What Rep. Lewis with MSM had seen was nothing short than shocking. It was even SHOCKING for me to even watch this video. These people were not speaking what was all on their minds, as individuals, but were acting like one BIG COLLECTIVE.
This confirms that what we are dealing with is not Americans with concerns about the course of the direction the United States is heading, with each passing day these protests are being shown for what they are, a reminder that the efforts of the Democrats and liberals to copy the success of the tea party movement has not only FAILED but is NOW BACKFIRING in their faces BIGTIME.
Give Herman Cain CREDIT, he is right about the Occupy Wall Street protests.

I think it works at all levels. I saw what you described, including the semaphore communication and it is thought control. You cannot evaluate any content when you must repeat everything verbatim, in unison. Repetition internalizes the content and the act of repetition internalizes obedience. Note that the finger language allows the repetition to continue without being overcome by shouted cheers or boos. Also note the leader saying “This is not a vote”, just ‘opinion’. But the goal was the appearance of consensus, so ‘opinion’ was coerced and then treated as a a ‘vote’.
Very effective. At some point, someone on the podium will yell “Get them” and a rabid crowd will surge to obey.

The group chants are new, but otherwise this is just another application of the Delphi method for artificially manufacturing a consensus.

I never saw anything like it. It acted like a cell reacting with defensive measures to an invading bacteria. No single person stands a chance of shouting the loonies and the bullhorn down. Very effective at the 100s to low thousands in terms of crowd sizes. Not sure how it scales up past that.
Well, notice that they are composed of thousands of small crowds in separate venues. We laugh at a few hundred in each place or even an afternoon march of a thousand or so, but if they are organized in this manner into manageable groups, (think squads, platoons), then the venue is controlled via orchestrated group think. With phones, services like Skype, and the Internet, they stay in contact and further coordinate. Who knows what texts are being exchanged between them, even within the smaller groups? They are all glued to phones 24/7.
They are also receiving credit card donations from all over the world. Foreign supporters are ordering take out for them, via credit card. This is sustainable. They really are citizens of the world, in practice.
Your defensive cell analogy is on target, IMO. You can pick them off individually, but as a whole, they are quite vital.

I thought of that, too. But it is an evolution of Delphi.
You can organize against Delphi with forethought by infiltrating numerous dissenters into the group, making sure to stay separate and not indicate any connections, asking questions and then, when the questioning person is delphied out by the facilitator, the other dissenters begin to calmly request the first dissenter be allowed to speak. But, with only finger language recognized, that won’t really be effective.
The break out Working Groups are also Delphi and another way to sideline or render ineffective any rising dissenter leader.
A lot of thought, organization and training is evident in this entire Occupy exercise. They are serious and this is only a first step. We criticize the logical fallacies, the lack of workable plans, but this is the cover for the more violent actions and disruptions. I wonder if the filth, violation of societal norms in elimination and licentiousness are a bonding element? It is very primal and they enjoy the shock aspect.
If a hard core remains over the winter, the experience will toughen that portion of the group, furthering a bonding among them. Support actions will develop and the winter campers will become respected. It sort of reminds me of some of the more extreme tree sitter scenes, where people stayed in trees for months on end.
Remember, everyone laughed at the Movement of the 60s/70s and today, the members of the Weather Underground are people in high positions of political power. Occupy will become a recruiting venue for the next generation of such leaders.

Further, to your defensive cell theory,they are setting up *antibodies* to anyone attempting to rationally show them their errors. It doesn’t take long for people, especially young ones, in a stressful situation with enough rewards thrown in, to become immediately able to identify ‘the other’.
With multiple separated venues, they can even afford to lose an entire group, here and there, such as being thrown off the Greenway in Boston. Trashing their possessions is being made to look ‘mean’ by the media. Not yet a ‘police riot’, but another brick in the wall separating *us* and *them*. Those of us on the outside likely have no clue as to the thought processes and emotional alliances being generated here.

Yes. Combine that with a winter occupation and all the physical toughness that entails and you also have something analogous to the SEALS Hell Week. Add drugs and you have the possibility of berserker behavior. Imagine being able to direct such outbursts.
The world sees chaos, but this is highly disciplined at the upper levels. Also, I am thinking of how many of these kids are into multi-player online games. People can laugh, but they learn tactics and strategy there, as well as coordinating actions with others. Some of those gamers have even developed sideline businesses selling various game trophies/powers/spells in the real world, for real money. They aren’t all stupid or ignorant.
I’m trying to think of antidotes in the here and now that might work to disrupt or short circuit their chants, megaphone and semaphore signals to wardens. Critical to recon the entire crowd, and locate the overt wardens, and the covert (deniable) enforcers they interface with. If you had a crowd of your own, you could disrupt them with repeated shouts of, “Mike Check!”. There must be cameras upon cameras, to catch and physical altercations instigated by the Marxist thugs. Cameras upon cameras, because they will start to smack/attack/knock/spray any “hostile” cameras or phones they see poised as cameras. (This was done in Albuquerque street riots last weekend. Very critical to film the bad behavior by them.
