Only 4 things can be highlighted as “topic” designations for a thread post. I found it a hard choice because – business/economy, education, government, health/medicine, history, military, politics, religion, science and society all should be included.
It is being reported by environmentalists -- believers in a socialist “green” religion -- that their judgment and knowledge is being resisted by “unscientific, religious deniers” hell-bent on blocking their path. So the deniers need to be “identified” for the good of humankind. This is dangerous. This morning I posted an article that explores with alarm, how Global Warming Consensus is denied by conservatives – that their resistance is an ever growing problem stemming from the religious right in America. I posted it because Gov. Rick Perry was mentioned at the top of the article. And there is good reason why. Socialists around the world know that Rick Perry has been fighting them on the legal front, the education front, and the environmental front for years. Due to his past, he knows why and where they are determined to lead us. Why would Rick Perry feel so strongly about these issues and their connection to states' rights and free market capitalism? Why does the Left recognize the danger of a Rick Perry controlling the Bully Pulpit of the White House, his veto, his appointments?
Rick Perry grew up on a farm (I know he keeps telling us this but I think it is done for a reason). His mother sewed his clothes. They worked and went to church. Rick Perry was a Boy Scout, earning Eagle Scout rank (so has his son). Rick Perry was a member of the Future Farmers of America. He went to Texas A&M and was a member of the Corps. Rick Perry joined the Air Force, serving 5 years. He flew C-130s around the world before returning to West Texas and the family farm. He courted his future wife, taught Sunday school and worked the land with his father. And in time he went into state politics.
Rick Perry is a self made man. He was called one of the Pit-bulls in the Texas legislature because he was a Democrat member who sat in the lower pit of the House Appropriations Committee and bitterly fought spending increases. He is naturally a conservative. In 1989 he joined the Republican Party that had begun taking root in Texas as the Democratic Party ideology began moving left. Perry ran for the Agriculture Commission seat against leftist Jim Hightower and won. In 1998 Rick Perry ran for Lt. Gov. and won (he was the first Republican Lt. Gov. elected since Reconstruction).
When George W. Bush became president in 2000, Rick Perry became the governor of Texas. He has been reelected twice (the last time beating out Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, a candidate supported by the Bush family and Karl Rove in a primary challenge). When Gov. Rick Perry was elected in 2010 for his 3rd term, he was joined by a Republican super majority in the Texas legislature. Major legislation was passed and signed by Gov. Perry, including (after a 6 year struggle) Photo Voter ID and tighter controls over how money is spent. Perry's history of being attacked by the mainstream media is well known and his election was won without one endorsement by a mainstream media outlet.
Rick Perry has served twice as Chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association. The country has seen a rise in the number of conservative governors and state legislatures in recent elections. Rick Perry broke fundraising records for the RGA. And now Rick Perry is a candidate in the GOP Primary for President of the United States. He wants to lower taxes, return states' rights, repeal Obama care, and remove the regulations and laws that are strangling our economy, and get people back to work.
Currently, the Left is battling Gov. Rick Perry’s stand on Big Education (unions) and EPA Energy and Environment dictates. Trial lawyers have made it known they plan to block any more power going to Rick Perry, as he has won so many victories against them as the Gov. of Texas. The Left knows Rick Perry has his own religious beliefs and does not adhere to their pseudo green religion. They know he understands the land, that he was brought up in a religious home and has worked for everything he has. The Left knows he attended a school that didn’t teach him to hate his country but rather instilled love of country. They know he served in the military and still encourages boys to become Boy Scouts. The Left can not put the lie to the fact that Texas' economy is running rings around Obama's disastrous economic policies. The Left knows that when Rick Perry shows compassion – has a heart – it isn’t because he wants to make you dependent on him but rather to set you free.
If the Left can demonize Gov. Perry, a man who believes in standing with our allies, making government as inconsequential as possible in our lives and who holds firmly to his belief in American exceptionalism – if they can successfully define him as a rightwing religious dunce, while simultaneously encouraging people in the GOP Primary to lambast him as someone who isn’t conservative, then the Left will have won the ideological battle -- their war against capitalism will be complete and they will permanently Rule America.

No need to panic, the battle has yet to even begin, Bush held his fire too... until just before South Carolina... and then launched his ads and completely destroyed McCain with a 43 state sweep.
Perry actually tipped his hand if you were paying attention at that last debate on how he is going to destroy Romney, he's gonna do it the same way McCain destroyed Romney sticking him with the flip flopper tag. He got flustered and probably hadn't planned on bringing the topic up yet, but sort of did, but bungled it. But none of that matters, because he will have all the time he needs to get that attack 100% perfect in the ads he will run as we start getting closer to states voting.

Sad to say, people don't usually read past the headline as they are totally self-absorbed and hopelessly inflicted with the unfortunate, knowledge gathering blocker of of immediately internalizing everything and shutting down.
I read your vanity and I excerpted your words in my response. In your vanity, you consistently assigned disagreements with Perry's actions as attacks from the left.
However, as you will note, this was directed to no one but rather at the country as a whole.
Is that why you posted it as a vanity on FR? Try expanding your target audience; perhaps you might send it to newspapers as a letter to the editor.

I am heartless when it comes to illegal immigration, that’s a fact. I’m tired of it.
I may put some heart into the issue, if our federal gov’t would take action and start controlling this mess.

Actually, it's the Buckley rule. And, a year ago September 14, Rush Limbaugh pointed out its most serious flaw: to apply it, you need to be clairvoyant.
We still have people who think that professional Washington politicians are the way to fix this, and clearly it isn't. Some of these people are citing the Buckley Rule. Now, I can honestly say that I know what the Buckley Rule is. I can honestly say I knew William F. Buckley and Buckley was a friend of mine. The Buckley Rule is, ostensibly, that you vote for the most electable conservative option against a Democrat in November. You vote for the Republican, slash, conservative who can win. To me, this requires clairvoyance, as is being currently applied in the Mike Castle-Christine O'Donnell race in Delaware, to use an example. The polling data is that Castle will win big and O'Donnell will lose big. If she gets the Republican nomination today, if she wins the election she'll lose big. The polls say she'll lose by 25 points; that Castle will win by 20 points. But who knows this? The election's a long time off. In a year like this, it seems to me that Americanism versus socialism can make up 25 points. Why the hell not try to? Is what I don't understand. Why not try to make up the 25 points?

So we have professional Washingtonians now telling us that Mike Castle's the only option we've got. Well, it's time, ladies and gentlemen, for the Limbaugh Rule to supplant and replace the Buckley Rule, because the Buckley Rule requires clairvoyance. The Buckley Rule requires people who can't possibly know the outcome of anything in the middle of September to support or not support somebody based on what they think's going to happen in early November. Christine O'Donnell can't win, she's 25 points down. Can't win? If a constitutional conservative can't win in this climate coming down from 25 points, we need to find that out, find out where we are. Why not go for it? The stakes dictate it, do they not? Here's the Limbaugh Rule: In an election year when voters are fed up with liberalism and socialism, when voters are clearly frightened of where the hell the country is headed, vote for the most conservative Republican in the primary, period.
End result: In November, O'Donnell lost to Coons 40% to 56.6%.
So, while the Buckley Rule may be hard to apply, the Limbaugh Rule is far from infallible, albeit more emotionally satisfying. I would say the Limbaugh Rule is best early in the process. But you need to be prepared to switch over to the Buckley Rule before it's too late.
There is movement on your list. For instance, just yesterday, one of those guys had his afterburners light up. And there is another likely candidate not on your list whose poll numbers have recently been surging, much to the media's consternation.
It's still way too early to pick a winner.
I admit it, it can be a little demoralizing to see the power of the ad and so damn little of the same power in Rick in the real. By that I mean he is perfectly capable of keeping his campaign in the lead by bashing back, laying out his “conversation” on the controversial realities of the issues, and doesn’t. UNLESS HE DOES NOT WANT FRONT RUNNER STATUS THIS EARLY? HMMMM. ????

If the feds were deporting them Texas wouldn't have to do this, but they catch them, turn them over to the feds (as is required) and the feds turn them loose. Would you rather have them on the streets, breaking into homes, stealing cars and selling drugs? They had little choice. All they are "giving" them is the opportunity to better themselves, not giving them an education, allowing the opportunity for them to better themselves if they are willing to pay for it.
In this debate the heartless label he used was much more clearly directed at those of us conservatives who do not agree with him on this.
I believe it was a mistake and will stand by that.
If Perry wins the GOP nomination, I will vote for him in a heartbeat over Obama or any DNC candidate. But in order for him to get that chance, he will have to get past this characterizatrion in my opinion. Other candidates are going to hammer him with it on the road and in debates. He cannot characterize a large portion of the base that he is going to have to depend on in this fashion and have it improve his chances IMHO...and, as I said, I stand by that.
There are three things that are, to me, sacred to the conservative core:
- parental rights (gardasil)
- property rights (the TTC debacle)
- national security (pandering to illegals)
RP has unimpressed me on all three of these issues and I’ve been speaking out against him since he came onto the national stage.
Yes, he’s fought back against the EPA and done other things right, but I want a candidate that is solid on ALL of these issues.
Perry backs down when his base kicks him back. But I don’t want a president that I have to control and keep an eye on. I want a man I can trust.
After his lousy debate performances, I really don’t know if he can beat Obama. I believe that Zero would wipe the floor with him.
So far, I agree with Cain in every respect. (I’m still digging, but he’s 100% at this point.) I believe that he has a solid moral, conservative foundation that will guide him through these issues. He’s a solid communicator that can transmit the conservative message to the masses.
Finally, I believe that he can really save this economy.
He’s 100% better than Perry across the board. We don’t have to make excuses for him or forgive him for anything.
I *love* that I don’t have to hold my nose and compromise when I pull the ‘Cain’ lever. With Perry, I’d be sick. It would feel like McCain all over again.
I am sure you voiced the same concern that the marginalization of both Palin and Bachmann was undeserved? Oh wait, I guess it is only Perry who should not have to fight the horde and just get a pass.
Um, sorry. I saw the debate. Rick Perry ruined Rick Perry. He called a LOT of people who opposed illegal immigration and funding the college education of illegals “heartless.” I think they HEARD him loud and clear.
It didn’t take the Left, or the Media to hurt Rick — his own words did him in. If it wasn’t illegal immigration, it’s the forced Gardisil vaccine for ore-teen girls. Rick is just NOT a true “Conservative” reflecting Tea Party values. And if Rick’s not — Romney is way out there and gone!

Well, as a matter of fact, I posted like this for Sarah Palin up to, including and for a bit after the email dump and NE bus tour. I posted supporting threads and vanity threads about her for years.
On Bachmann, I wrote a vanity thread saying she had everything (and listed her good qualities and bona fides) but asking why I couldn't warm up to her candidacy. I wanted to be told what I was missing -- It was not a negative and posted as an opening for her supporters to convince me.
I avoid degrading other GOP candidates.
