Note that 23 years ago, Perry switched from Democrat to Republican; 23 years before his first election as President (and just 19 years before his first Presidential campaign), Ronald Reagan was a registered Democrat and president of the Screen Actor’s Guild - leader of a liberal union!

If we’re to hold every candidate to account for anything they did 23+ years ago, then NO candidate - declared or potential - will pass muster. Look at what they’ve done in the last 10 years - that’s a better indication of how they’ll govern.

Why did Palin not take full advantage this summer while her kids were out of school and go on a paid speaking tour to maximize her income? Why did Sarah Palin not sign on for a second season of Sarah Palin’s Alaska (SPAK) and thus forgo the opportunity to bank millions more?

Good questions.

For the posters who claim that Palin is "stringing people along for the money", I would ask what book has she written, what TV programhas she made(besides Fox) and what PAID speaking engagements has she made this year??

Anybody??

Amazing that Gingrich can poll 7% while barely campaigning.

People like his eviscerating the press during the televised debates so much, they almost forget his sharing the Global Warming Sofa with Nancy Pelosi.

Cheers!

How long will you wait for her?

'Til Al Gore is pummeled in a snowball battle in hell.

I’ll wait until she announces that she is running, or that she isn’t running. She’s the best person for the job (imo) and is worth waiting for. We don’t know the inner workings of her situation and it’s wrong of us to set artificial deadlines or second-guess that which we know little about.

The Chinese view timelines in terms of centuries and generations, while we tend to view timelines in terms of weeks, days, or even minutes. Please be patient and let the events develop according to their natural timetables and react accordingly. You’ll probably be glad you did.

It irritates me when her supporters tell me that she’s going to run, it’s like Henny Penny going off to see the king that the sky is falling.

I agree that she’s an excellent candidate, and I hope she does run, but until then, I don’t really want to hear it.

Simply I have read the tea leaves over the past 2 and 1/2 years. Why did Palin not take full advantage this summer while her kids were out of school and go on a paid speaking tour to maximize her income? Why did Sarah Palin not sign on for a second season of Sarah Palin’s Alaska (SPAK) and thus forgo the opportunity to bank millions more? And why has Sarah Palin not told Organize4Palin to cease and desist, knowing that hundreds of thousands of volunteers across the country await word she is running (Peter Singleton interview)?

Oooh! Original thinking, I like that! And right on point! Please advance to the Bonus Round, those parroting the media may leave quietly.

Here's where I cannot relate to or understand Perry:

I got Reagan right away, from the very first speech I heard. No conversion was necessary.

I understood Carter right from the start as well. And thanks to both men, at 18 yo, I had no political identity issues at all. Unlike my family or many of my friends, I was aligned with whatever party Reagan was and the total opposite of Carter and the demonrats.

No so, with Perry. From what I've found doing research, he voted for Carter. He was a demonrat through Reagan's time and campaigned for Algore.

People do change and I'm glad he finally found, better late than never, some political sanity, if that's what his conversion is.

These are just more bits of info about the man, not the complete picture and it would be unfair to judge him based solely upon them alone, but those details are important to understanding him, predicting what he would do in office and his fitness to represent me.

knowing that Perry supported the pathologically lying algore @ an advanced age, gives me great pause.

Having recently downloaded the CBS/NYT poll, I was surprised at this article.

Since it was about Sarah Palin, one would have expected this data to have been included:

Sarah Palin receives her highest unfavorable rating (62%) in this poll since CBS News began asking about her in 2008. And for the first time, more Republicans now view her unfavorably than favorably.

Sarah Palin
Former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s negative ratings have been on the rise since she left her job as Governor of Alaska in 2009. 62% of voters now hold an unfavorable view of Palin – the highest since 2008, when CBS News began asking about her. Only 20% view her favorably.
Views of Sarah Palin
(among registered voters)
............................Now..... 6/2011. 9/2010 7/2009 9/2008
Favorable............... 20%.... 21%.... 23%... 26%.... 44
Unfavorable............. 62..... 57....... 51.... 37..... 22
Undecided/DK......... 17..... 21....... 24.... 36..... 34

For the first time in CBS News Polls, more Republicans now view Palin unfavorably (39%) than favorably (36%). Opinions are similar among Republican primary voters.
Just after her convention speech in 2008, three in four Republicans viewed her favorably.

I for one appreciate your effort! I am a fan of your posts as well. However I have to be honest and say that I strongly believe that there is absolutely zero science in any political polling. So to compare the various polling data from NY Times, to PPP etc, as if any of them had any thing of value to offer??

Just boggles my mind that so many look to the pollsters for anything??? I just do not get it

All the pollsters do is manufacture opinion, they all have an agenda. When it comes to Gov Palin the MSM and Rep est are basically working together...you know, a enemy of my enemy is my friend.

This just happens to me a subject I am bent on, I have covered this before so I will give you a break and leave it there.
Have held these views for yearssss

You make some good points!

you say this as well.... He was a demonrat through Reagan’s time and campaigned for Algore.

Absolutely right, and now get this...Perry would have us believe that though he campaigned for Gore he voted for Reagan both times...I am sorry but I say BULL CRAP...sorry I do not buy it for a millisecond.

Also he says he found God at age 27 while in the Air force, But then after “finding God he works for Al Gore and belongs to the party of abortion and anti Christian values??

Something does not fit at least in my mind.

OK so we leave judging to God, and we take him at his word. At some point he see`s the light and leaves the Democrat party. He is repentant for supporting the party of abortion etc.

So in the year 2000 he is a Republican now, loves God...but what does he do but endorse Rudy who basically shares the same values that we are to believe he turned from?

I do not see him as genuine, sorry folks

What Romney needs is "a parting of the Red Sea miracle" to win the nomination.

If Dems do a reverse Op Chaos for Mitty, are there enough open states to get him the nomination?

That could only happen if the conservatives divide their vote up among several different candidates.

As of now that is probably not what is going to happen.

Most conservatives next year aren’t going to vote for Bachmann, Cain or Santorum. It doesn’t take a genius to read the tea leaves.

The bulk of the votes of conservatives will go to either Perry or Palin next year.

One big problem you have with your reasoning is that you are comparing the CBS poll to the NBC poll and the Battleground poll. That comparison will not tell you anything about movement for or against any particular candidate - you would need to look at the last CBS poll to see what movement has occurred. Now, you can aggregate the polls and see is they indicate trends - in other words, if a number of polls show Perry and Romney dropping drastically, then that will show up in the average, and indicate a trend. Or if the next NBC poll shows that kind of drop, you might have an argument. But to compare the CBS poll by itself to other polls is just bad logic.

No can do. This was the first poll of the GOP contenders by CBS/NYT this election cycle. There is no previous history.

But what is a common thread is that Sarah Palin was NOT polled in any of the polls. That is consistent.

“why would Palin sign a 3 year contract with FOX if she was planning to run for President?”

Maybe to fool people who would think it means she’s not going to run.

Perry and his wife are too picture perfect, they actually appear to be the perfect couple image wise for POTUS and First lady.

I think this nation will make an over corrective mistake by electing Perry solely because of his face and his wife’s posture.

I just don’t have any faith in Perry, I bet if he and I were to meet face to face my hackles would rise.

Sarah on the other hand I have actually had a chance to sit down and say hello to.

Sarah Palin can bring America back from the death bed, her strategy is perfect, I must restrain myself from posting on most of the frenzied “When is Sarah announcing” threads because I am laughing at those who cannot figuratively launch their kamikazee raids against her because the wind is never blowing in the right direction.

Whatever she is doing is fine with me.And I am fine with her.
