As you open your pockets for the next natural disaster, please keep these facts in mind:

The United Way President Brian Gallagher receives a $375,000 base salary along with numerous expense benefits
UNICEF CEO Caryl M. Stern receives $1,200,000 per year (100k per month) plus all expenses including a ROLLS ROYCE Less than 5 cents of your donated dollar goes to the cause
The Salvation Army's Commissioner Todd Bassett receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing this $2 billion dollar organization .96 percent of donated dollars go to the cause.
The American Legion National Commander receives a $0.00 zero salary. Your donations go to help Veterans and their families and youth!

Good information. Thanks.
Unfortunately, it seems a lot of “charities” operate this way. I have been researching lately, looking for a charity for my MC to help out. We want our funds to go to the folks it is intended for, not some “director” or their staff.
We are leaning toward “Make A Wish”, but even there only about 75 cents of each dollar goes to the kids.
We were totaled in Charley. Salvation Army was FANTASTIC!!
Red Cross first asked, Any Insurance? Yes, them see us after you settle your claim and finish with FEMA. I don’t doubt the first level Red Cross have their hearts in the right place, but the Orgazination sucks! I would NEVER give a dime to them. All my support goes to the Salvation Army.
I am not in a position to give as much as I would like, but when I do, I give to the VFW
If I remember correctly the top three organizations listed are run by liberals and the bottom two are conservative.
The Red Cross has a consistently bad reputation around where I live, too. They also dole out gynormous salaries for their ‘execs’
The Salvation Army is the one I donate to.
Won’t give to the United Way or Red Cross; only to the Salvation Army. I looked at joining them once, but I just don’t what it takes. Those people are Amazing!
That’s pretty good.
When the Feds “help” people, only about 10-30 cents of each dollar “helps” them. The rest sticks to the fingers of empire-building bureaucrats.
I get into a fight with my office United Way coordinator every year. We have these drives to get 100% participation in donations to United Way. Every year I explain that I am not participating because United Way is corrupt and loaded with high paying staff. I offer to give evidence that I have given to another charity—usually the Salvation Army—but the United Way scam is that you need 100% participation through them. Most charities are either corrupt or even if they serve a legitimate purpose, have been infested with a bunch of chiseling grifters who are looking to take a big paycheck out of the donations.
Catholic Charities is extremely low overhead.
So this is what the “non-profit” industry is primarily about. Sad.
The United Way are such whores.
Just out of college I applied for a BS paper pushing job there. The job went to some doctor’s wife (who lived three counties away) and they handed her a huge salary to get dressed up every day and show up at the office for coffee.
I never contribute to them. One office I worked in would NOT provide ins. for us but annually pressured us (very publicly and forcefully) to contribute to United Way. Right... I can’t afford ins. for myself but I am supposed to fork over money for United Way to fritter away on cushy salaries and expense accounts for figureheads in their organization. It was a hassle every year.
Having just been back to my house to sleep since being evacuated from the wildfires in Texas, this is very useful info. 100% contained FYI for Riley Road / Magnolia / Tri-county fire.
BUMP
We knew it went on but didn't know details.
but when I do, I give to the VFW
VFW also has that great magazine, on a very low budget. Good writers, accurate history.
FReepers ought to be aware that United Way is mostly a cover org. for any and all leftist "causes", and includes a few worthwhile orgs. for "cover". One should always seperate out his or her contributions to specific orgs. rather than contribute one cent that will go to our enemies.
The Southern Baptists have a disaster relief program. That is the one I always contribute to because it all goes to disaster relief. Their website is www.namb.net/dr/ if you want to check it out.
