Encouraged by Michelle Obama's campaign to reduce childhood obesity, the company that owns the Olive Garden, Red Lobster and four other popular restaurant chains is pledging to cut the calories and sodium in its meals and overhaul its kids' fare.
Darden Restaurants Inc. was unveiling the changes Thursday, with the first lady on hand to lend support.
The company will pledge to reduce the calories and sodium in all its meals by 10 percent over five years, and by 20 percent over 10 years. For children, French fries and sugar-sweetened beverages will become the exception and not the rule....

"I will never give a penny to any of your restaurants again. You hitch your wagon to the failed Obama obesity campaign, that's fine. I can keep my $ in my own wallet. All of your restaurants can go bankrupt quickly in my opinion. See you in the soup line!"
I live in area with a large Italian ethnic population. THere is an Olive Garden here, but I son’t know how they survive when there’s a plethora of REAL Italian restaurants with lower prices and such better authentic food (or just go to your best friend’s mom’s house for dinner).
And since we’re very close to the shoreline, same is true for seafood.
Went to Longhorn once, just to see what it was like, but we liked Outback better. And steak is one of the things that’s hard to mess up. A little salt and pepper and a few minutes on the grill.
No problem giving up what we never go to :-)
This is the kind of "smear" the administration can live with!
Benefits of Sodium
Sodium is an electrolyte in the blood that helps the body perform several essential tasks. Every person needs proper amounts of sodium in their diet in order to maintain nerve and muscle function. Sodium also helps to maintain blood pressure, says Penn State’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. A lack of sodium in the diet may lead to hyponatremia, which is characterized by confusion, lethargy, nausea and muscle twitches.
Benefits of Iodine
Iodine is a mineral that is required in a person’s daily diet. According to Aurora Health Care, iodine is responsible for keeping metabolic rates stable and promoting the synthesis of bone and protein. It also regulates the rate at which people grow and develop. A lack of iodine in the diet leads to weight gain and thyroid problems such as goiter.
Misconceptions
Some people are under the impression that sea salt contains less sodium than table salt. MayoClinic.org reports, however, that the two types of salt contain approximately the same concentration of sodium. Furthermore, sea salt loses much of its natural iodine during processing, says Aurora Health Care. Therefore, it is an inferior source of iodine when compared to iodized table salt.
Just sayin’
We watch what we eat when we eat out and appreciate healthier choices. We’ll just watch what we eat elsewhere now. Thx for the list :-)
You owe me a monitor and a fresh cup of coffee.
I can’t tell if the horse is disgusted or genuinely interested...

Pay more for less.
how very Obama.
No more Olive Garden, it is my money not Michelle.
No more ugly first ladies.
I just handed out the list of restaurants owned by Darden Restaurants Inc. to over 100 employees that are remodeling a local building and told them Michelle Obama didn’t want their children to get fat. roflol!
They were po’d! (and hungry!)
The only other time I recall Olive Garden intruding on the media was in 2006 when 300 customers of its restaurant in Indianapolis got sick. http://foodpoisoning.pritzkerlaw.com/archives/norovirus-olive-garden-food-poisoning.html
Since then I’ve avoided the Olive garden. Today’s news doesn’t provide any reason for me to change my opinion. Imagine a menu “supervised by Michelle Obama”. Yuk! Zagat rating = Zero
You’d think that if seasoned Democrat politicians are avoiding photo ops with Obama and his wife, businesses would have enough sense to do the same. Go figure.
Darden Restaurants received an Obamacare waiver.

That is why they agreed to make changes to their food.

I think they got some kind of exemption from Obamacare for it. Jerks.
