I'm not the enemy (or at least I don't want to be?)

A decade and a day ago, you could describe a guy as being tall, Muslim, from the Bronx, and no one's eyes would start darting. Back then, the word "Muslim" was merely an adjective. Today it's an accusation. An allegation. An affront.

One that we as Americans actually feel compelled to respond to, like cooties on the playground. An allegation that, if it's actually true, makes you want to hang your head in shame, like being called a fatso.

Our President was repeatedly accused of being Muslim. Whole foods was recently accused of celebrating Ramadan by introducing its "Saffron Road" line of halal frozen dinners. Hard to imagine thinking Americans like us tolerating someone being accused of being Irish Catholic. Or Safeway being accused of selling Christmas cookies. Or my son's second grade soccer team being accused of pandering to Jews because there's no game on October 8, for Yom Kippur.

Yet allegations of Islam are made with impunity, because 9/11 happened. But more importantly, because we Americans accepted the easy answer about why it happened: Islam. We tookoff our thinking caps, hung them up by the border, and simply accepted that it was the world's second largest religion that blew planes into buildings on that horrific, bloody day.

We didn't question - was it really this religion that hijacked these planes, or was this religion itself hijacked by these terrorists, whose agendas were political, economic, personal? It hardly seemed necessary to dig deeper into what motivated these particular people to do these particular things. Who among us even remembers their names?

All too often, when something explodes, the first thing out of a reporter's mouth is, "Well, we don't know if it's a Muslim, but inside sources tell us we can't rule it out" ...

Many Muslims in many majority-Muslim countries celebrate when Americans die.

And ""Well, we don't know if it's a Muslim, but inside sources tell us we can't rule it out" is such a slave-culture conspiracy-fabricator whine. Our media & our government almost always refuse to call a crazy Muslim killer a crazy Muslim killer. See:

Media Refuse To Get It Right On Fort Hood ... was Nidal Malik Hasan. But that night, CBS and NBC completely avoided mentioning that the shooter was a Muslim. ... noting that Hasan was Muslim ...

It is easy enough to find Muslims who profess to want to kill us all and destroy our way of life.

My sin, my crime, is no less, and no more, than that I am willing to take what these people are saying at face value.

Gee, Reshma.....
Do you support the mosque at Ground Zero?
Do you approve of people of other faiths?
Do you think Israel has the right to exist?

Many Muslims are not very good Muslims.
And we’re very grateful for this.

“Hard to imagine thinking Americans like us tolerating someone being accused of being Irish Catholic.”

Last I checked it was neither Irish nor Catholics trying to murder my countrymen or our allies for not being one of them.

They will be when the mullahs tell them to be.

A Christian friend told me, unbidden, "When they come for you, you can hide in my house."

And to how many Christian friends have you made that offer, unbidden?

Muslim or Islam were words that were not allowed to be uttered in my husband's presence for over 50 years. He was stationed in North Africa during the cold war, and shot and killed Muslims that tried to cross the Subu River and do great harm to our Navy planes and their personnel.

When muslims such as this writer opposes and marches against the muslims who march for killing americans and demanding sharia law, and that we become an islmaic nation...then I might believe them....most of all when they denounce the koran and islam then it’s possible for them to perhaps begin to be believed.....but until then there is no reason to believe anything they say as long as the Koran is their instructor and they follow Muhammed....because their intentions will always remain the Islamification of America.

But we'd be storming the network - justifiably - if they slung the same slur at Jews or blacks or gays.

Therein shows the rage bubbling beneath the thin veneer of restraint. States so proudly; of being justified with storming _______. Say the home of a Dutch cartoonist? In the case of this particular author it would be justified for "slinging slurs". I'm sure it was just meant in the Hoffa "take them out" friendly sort of way though. Still curious as to whom the we'd comment refers to. Maybe the leftist allies?

This author’s analysis is so wrong on so many levels.

President Bush and his administration, as well as Tony Blair and others, went out of their way — even too far, some might say — to say exactly what this author says should have been said: that a “religion of peace” had been hijacked by idiots.

In fact, the Western leaders were MORE VOCAL in defending Islam as “not the problem” immediately after 9/11 than any MUSLIMS were. Where were the Muslims in this country standing up en masse and condemning the terrorists?

How does this man explain the Muslim protesters in England today — and the lack of a massive condemnation of their conduct by other Muslims?

Muslims who feel the way the author says he does need to do more than bad-mouth those who speak what their “lying eyes” tell them: that, for reasons that may not be understood or may not need to be understood, Islam and terrorism are linked in ways that no other ideology represents.

It just is what it is.

I should think he would be directing his attention to addressing —

The Muslims over in the UK today acting so nasty.

Muslims that set of a truck bomb last night, wounding 77 Americans and and killing 5 Afghan civilians.

Muslims tearing down the Israeli embassy.

Muslims trying to attack/rape a CNN reporter yesterday.

12 Muslims were killed and 16 wounded in Libya, both anti-Kadhafi but rivals.

Armed men that killed a British man and kidnapped his wife from a beach resort in northern Kenya near the border with lawless Somalia (I’m sure they are Muslim)

Four terror suspects arrested by Swedish authorities on suspicion of “preparing a terrorist attack.” Today being September 11.

At the Muslim who shot a bus passenger in the back.

Berlin police on Thursday searched a mosque in the capital after arresting two suspects on charges of acquiring chemicals for a bomb attack in a raid in Kreuzberg and Neukoelln districts.

All this in the last three to four days, I would say he prob’ly should be directing his rant to his fellow Muslims. Until then, I think Americans would be foolish not to be suspicious of Muslims
