On September 3rd, Sarah Palin will be at a Tea Party rally in Iowa. There is plenty of speculation that she will announce her candidacy on that day. A Tea Party ad featuring Sarah Palin has been hitting the airwaves over the past week. After the rally in Iowa, reports have confirmed that Sarah Palin will fly to New Hampshire for another Tea Party rally. Last year, I told all of my friends and everyone I know that Sarah Palin will run for President in 2012. Now, I really believe it is going to happen. As Karl Rove stated on Fox News, she does not need to follow the campaign rule book at all. Sarah Palin is one of those people who can attract excitement and support immediately. This will have a major impact on the Republican presidential field and Sarah Palin will be a heavyweight player in the GOP race. With the dramatic entrance of Sarah Palin, the race is going to be thrilling to watch.
from your lips to God’s ears.
Well, I’ve seen elsewhere she herself put forth September as the limiting month. In your text it is Brody who puts October out there. She doesn’t argue with Brody, but she does sweep the time frame back into the generality of “Fall.” I suspect there was purpose in that.
As for the notion of serving as either candidate or some other way, she’s been saying that from the beginning, as well she should, since part of what she is doing is providing inspirational leadership for other, non-politicos to get into the effort to restore America, her driving theme, and a major part of the Tea Party ethos.
However, maintaining the ambiguity right up to the last moment is also a legal necessity. Bannon put a million of his own dollars into Undefeated, and SarahPac is bankrolling the bus tour. All those would count as contributions in kind if given while she was a declared candidate and officially in control, but right now they are just other people spending money. When she removes the ambiguity, her money flow comes under much stricter FEC scrutiny, so she will have to keep muddying the waters until it all systems go. Just the way it is.
This reminds me of all the hoopla that surrounded Fred Thompson. He is going to run. No, he’s not going to run. He’ll announce next month. No, it won’t be until later. Meanwhile, poor ol’ Fred had to be pushed kicking and screaming into the race. His rabid supporters on this forum were absolutely convinced that a guy with a drawl and a red pickup truck and all that name recognition and movie tough guy roles would wipe up the floor with the other candidates. Didn’t happen.
Turned out Fred was a dud of a candidate whose long hesitation and indecision about running were the truest indications of the level of commitment and enthusiasm he brought to the campaign. He fizzled pretty quickly. I watched his few campaign appearances that were televised on C-Span. It was obvious to everyone except the true believers that the guy was not interested. He showed up at the Iowa State Fair in Gucci loafers and drove around for a few minutes in a golf cart. Then he left. I said he would be gone in a month or two and I was stomped on here as some kind of heretic.
I’ll hazard an opinion again. Palin will not run. If she does, she’ll sink like a rock like Thompson did. Perry and Bachmann are already talking about the same issues and offering the same solutions as Palin. And they’re more credible with the general electorate and with Republican voters. Palin is yesterday’s news. She’s redundant. She should stay in Alaska and run a tourist business. I think the American people are tired of her pussyfooting around, trying to steal the limelight from the candidates who are out there hour after hour day after day working hard for the nomination. I’m tired of her. Pee or get off the pot, as my grandmother used to say.
...and yet, one of the most politically savvy personalities in the business would be completely oblivious to the message being sent by working a Tea Party crowd in a critical early primary state? It stretches credulity to the breaking point. Just sayin ...
It was a far different time. There are also big differences. Everyone knew Reagan would run, he was just making as much private sector cash as he could before he got in. He was ahead in the polls all throughout that period. The only one who polled better was Ford and he said he wasn't running. Reagan also had a seasoned campaign team and financial network ready to go out of the box from the '68 and '76 POTUS runs. John Sears, Mike Deaver and Ed Meese, some of whom were with him in the Gov runs. I don't see any of this with Palin.
Derek Patrella has spoken. WOW!
Clarity and a plan are what we need.
It's long past time for games and posturing.
True conservatism and the right message needs little marketing.
>> His rabid supporters on this forum were absolutely convinced &etc
Ah, the Good Old Days! How I miss the smell of burnt feelings and exploding egos from those seemingly endless flame wars! If you weren’t for Fred, you were the spawn of Stalin. And that’s if the FredBots were feeling generous.
Lesson learned...
Soooo..... You totally discount:
1. She is just SO gosh darned good looking?
and
2. She shoots moose and rides motorcycles?
Are you forgetting that??
Bachman has worked hard
Yeesh! So by now you’d be telling Reagan to pee or get off the pot because you have to have somebody to back right this minute? I guess we really are the “instant gratification generation.”
BTW, the analogy between Thompson and Palin breaks down pretty quick when you actually start comparing them as candidates. As in, no comparison. Nice try though.
I've always thought that conservatives were the party of rational thought. Our policies and principles are based on reason and logic, rather than the wishful thinking and naive idealism common among so many on the left. We can debate concepts and ideas, and have disagreements, without sinking to screaming fandom.
I just wish that some of the Palin supporters who demonstrate that behavior would realize it does not make their candidate more appealing to other people. It's a sad bit of misfortune for Palin than some of her most fervent supporters are actually driving some folks away. Because she really deserves to be evaluated on her own merits as a canddiate, not on the merits of some of her supporters. But that is a reality that is happening, at least to some extent.
I agree, it’s rediculous to attack Palin for speaking at the same event O’Donnell is, and I’m not sure when O’Donnell went from being the darling of conservatives to a pariah.
Anyway, if you wanted to attack Palin for an association with O’Donnell, it would be the endorsement, not a speaking deal. And it would be stupid to attack her for the endorsement, because it stopped us from being stuck with Mike Castle.
Now, I really believe it is going to happen.
Interesting sentence.
Change the name to Palin, and she becomes a money grabbing capitalist pig with her trademark and all.
LOL
Some more food for thought.

That doesn’t seem like a great ramp up to a Presidential announcement.
Interesting observations all, but not unique to Palin. Some of Ron Paul’s worst enemies are his most fervent supporters. But fan rage is an equal opportunity employer. Perry supporters here are laboring overtime to create that same sense of “inevitability” you decry in the Palin camp. Furthermore, questioning his qualifications unleashes significant hostility and proves beyond doubt you are just uncritically reacting to all those nasty leftist hit pieces about him. No real criticism allowed. It is unfortunate, as you say, but it’s just a natural phenomena that goes with having a fan base.
Another part of it is the underdog syndrome. Palin getting mercilessly crucified by the Obama machine and coming back to win it all is a compelling narrative, even for a rational person like me.
Another other part of it is candidate perception. People who have immersed themselves in understanding Palin as a candidate find a personality perfectly suited to the revolution of our time, our attempt to take back our government from a corrupt and entrenched elite. Its what she does for a living. Literally. The premise is, if you really knew her, you would love her too. Frankly, I think that’s true. She is politically wise but a genuine, human person, with the spirit of true reform running through her blood, not your typical political chameleon. This is the person we’ve been wanting to have for president for a generation, and it drives Palinistas to the brink of utter frustration to constantly see her painted in false colors that hide or distort the real Palin, even here on FR, and sometimes extreme frustration produces less than rational behavior.
Well if this is true, then it does sound like a presidential run because she does not want to be associated with someone like Christine O’Donnell.
I think she will endorse someone else officially on Sept 3rd.
