Yes the media does hype stories and weather.Everyone is sick of watching Cantore pick the wrong worst place to report in Hurricanes.
I just got off of a generator with minimal things powered since Friday.I am in NC and I am just now catching up to NC/local news.People came back today to no homes whatsoever.The tobacco farmers lost they're crops to a tune of 16 milliom in losses in one county so far. The JOKER Purdue has not toured completely to asseses. There are people right now without water,electric and the temps have returned to very hot and humid.I just wanted to remind everyone that just because the weather channel is probably still trying to dig ever so hard to find suffering from Irene in NYC. NC and I heard Vermont are indeed suffering.
What people said is that the MSM is overhyping it and are now comparing it to Katrina. It was a swift moving Category 1 and holds nothing to Katrina which was stronger and pretty much sat on top of New Orleans.
It was also not comparable to the hurricane that pretty much shut down Galveston Island a few years ago.
I am sure there are isolated places of devastation. But that doesn’t mean the media did not overhype it.
They pumped this up to be the next Katrina.
I live in NH and we were supposed to get 60-80 mph, right up until Sunday morning.
We probably topped out at 10 mph; not a downed tree or even a branch. And we are in a rural place that loses power 4-5 times per year. Had power all day.
Vermont is a mess! My folks did not lose power, but many people did. There were/are people missing, flash flood warnings, damage to the nth degree, just a mess. Maybe the storm did not behave exactly as anticipated, but no one should be saying it was all hype. Try telling that to folks who have lost their homes and livelihoods. Oh, and there were tornadoes this week too. I know people here make fun of Vermonters, but there are a lot of good, hardworking families there.
No one is saying it was nothing. Good grief. The storm was over hyped to the max.
Tornados around Sharpsburg/Rocky Mt, NC area this evening...say a prayer for these folks...we are on tornado watch/warning until 11PM tonight...
New Orleans was/is a likely spot for a TS or hurricane to hit/devastate. The people who live there know that. Vermont is a landlocked state and would not ordinarily expect this sort of weather system.
A friend in MA reports that they have lost power for over 24 hours over one pole.

Because the first thing they do is clean up the PCB Oil to keep the Greens happy.
Kinda makes one wonder how bad the ‘500 year’ flood of Tennessee was, eh?

The fact that the worst case scenario did not materialize does not necessarily mean that the situation was overhyped.
And that doesn’t even get to the point that in any storm the size of Texas, the bands will produce, in effect, microclimates that mean individuals will experience very different results from the same storm, even in the same general area.

I know how you feel. In 2005 the nation was Katrinatized, while almost no one noticed we got whacked 200 miles to the west with Rita with 125 mph winds.
The Gov or NC who will be unseated when Obama is reminds me of ‘the joker.’ She has only toured and assessed one county in NC for Irene damage.

Being in NC for this storm (homeowner -— I do mean I own it too, not the bank), nothing is overhype. You don’t want to see your abode destroyed or damaged. Hurricanes like Irene have not always faded before they hit.
We got lucky in my opinion. The barometric pressure indicated she was healthy and warm water should have bumped that storm to easy L3, but for whatever reason we were spared. As a Christian, I could say that God let us off the hook, but I doubt it. He has let other storms rummage through our area, and flattened lots of stuff. I think it just wasn’t meant to be a world ender.
If anything, it has greatly embarrassed the warmists who were hoping for hurricanageddon to justify clamping down on warming. Maybe that was God’s reason for sparing us — making shysters out to be ... well, shysters.
For the love of Pete it does not take anything away from Katrina. There was damage. There are homeless, suffering people from a turned from 3 to 2 real quick Hurricane.If Irene would not have slowed down off the coast of NC NYC could have had damage.I am not taking the media’s side but they knew some northern states were already saturated and would flood.IMO all canes will be hyped after Katrina but people should never become complacent is all I am trying to say.
True. Those in Lousiana get major rain like this in thunderstorms. There was one in 1995 that dumped 20" of rain in east New Orleans and it wasn't even a hurricane. Areas along the Mississippi River often experience massive flooding. North Carolina got major flooding. This sort of thing happens and it is sad.
It's not that people think this is no big deal. It's just that it could have been even worse had areas on the coast been hit harder and places like NYC had major flooding.
