Reminds me of the media induced hysteria over the “bird flu” and other stories they have manufactured in the past. When you have talking heads on TV 24 hours a day, you have to manufacture drivel for them to spout. TV news is all useless bullshit. Casey Anthony 24/7 with commentary from geniuses like Geraldo!

It's all global warming's fault! We never had hurricanes like this before.

When I was boy, you could put a hurricane on a leash and take it for a walk around the block. Feed it a couple of Florida Keys or a trailer park and it would be through for the summer.

We had a local woman headingto NY...Red Cross....her 21st trip...she said problem would be things like no electricity...well duh....so what is she going to do?? flap her arms to generate electricity.

Would like to know how much she is being paid...IIRC (from a friend) it's an astronomical paycheck and expenses...(His rate would be $300 per hour)

Time to investigate these wages.

A cat 1 can have sustained winds of 85mph which can do a hell of a lot of damage. One person has already been killed in NC due to a fallen tree. Do not underestimated the damage that can be caused by a cat 1.

All media realize they can’t let a crisis go to waste. It’s about revenue.

So much hype and hysteria over this? What a joke.

All the "experts" with the world's fanciest computer models can't even predict what a hurricane will do with very much accuracy, yet they want us to believe they can predict what the temperatures will decades and centuries from now. It's beyond laughable.

It is not about what cat it is
This is slow moving hurricane. Nyc power lines are mainly in subway tunnels and they will get flooded.
Preparations and warnings arin order.

Irene might not even be a hurricane any more. I’ve been looking at wind speeds in the area, and I’m just not seeing hurricane strength winds. Tropical storm, yes, and still very dangerous, but not a hurricane.

And yet, concerned experts were talking about the possibility of Irene becoming a Cat 4 storm just a couple of days ago.

BTW, I watched Key Largo the other day. Great movie!

We had this tropical storm called Agnes hit the Mid-Atlantic back in 1972.

Most folks around here will never forget it ~ thing rained constantly flooding places that hadn't been flooded since Noah.

Tore out huge steal bridges and made them disappear in the depths of Chesapeake Bay. Scoured new channels for the Potomac. Destroyed houses.

I lived in the top of an apartment building that developed roof leaks! Didn't have enough pots and pans.

A tropical storm can be far worse than a hurricane.

The media keeps trying to induce hysteria.

They invested whole hog in it. They must be disappointed there hasn’t been the devastation they wanted.

The politicians like Bloomberg look like nitwits.

Best guess when it is all said and done, they will have created messes that didn’t need to happen.

So whats new?

Anyone that has watched east coast hurricanes knew that it would be a “tropical storm” by the time it gets to the north..
Fox just showed a few loose shingles on a roof in Va..

There may be a bad rain storm in NYC and Boston but the panic being built up is unforgivable

You’re not alone with the heresy. I made this point yesterday on the Hurricane Irene thread, when it was apparent that the apocolyptic predictions were patently absurd, as usual. It’s all east coast media self-obsession. People keep replying to me angrily over there, which naturally generates a response, especially if it’s nasty. Now they’ve tattled on me with the moderator (children), you know how it goes. I’m a despised heretic for something that’s self-evidently true: in terms of media coverage, this is much ado about nothing.

The main reason for the hype is to justify Obama handing out fistfuls of “disaster” money to all of the blue states being hit by the tropical storm. No doubt the "disaster" money will be processed by political hacks, just like any other third world country.

Wake me up when 320 tornadoes hit your state at once as happened in the south this year.
