Seventeen (17) things that critics are saying about Rick Perry
Pesky Truth ^ | August 16th, 2011 | Garnet

Posted on 08/17/2011 6:25:03 AM PDT by shield

Over the past couple of months Rick Perry has been considering a run for POTUS. As of Saturday, August 13, he’s in with both feet.

Since he’s been Governor of Texas for over ten years, folks from the other “56 states” are asking Texans what kind of governor he’s been and what we think. I decided that what I “think” isn’t good enough – I could be wrong. So, I decided to do some research on Perry’s record and form a more accurate, fact-based opinion on his qualifications instead of relying on my general perceptions.

In the spirit of full disclosure, I voted for Perry in each of the three gubernatorial elections since 2002 and I am a conservative and a registered Republican. It was easy for me to vote for Perry since the alternative(s) were either uber-RINOs in the primaries or liberal Democrats in the general elections. Under the circumstances, my choice was always easy.

While researching Perry’s pros and cons, I’ve read every article and blog post that I could find – over several weeks. Many of those posts had 2-300 comments associated with them – I read them all.

After reading literally thousands of comments, it’s become apparent that there are quite a lot of anti-Perry activists out there throwing all sorts of disparaging rhetorical crap against the wall in hopes that some will stick and they can influence someone, anyone, to become anti-Perry too. The unfortunate thing is that most of their negative statements are either completely false, at worst, or misleading, at best.

>> OK...let's give the right interpretation of the moslem thingy..<<

Yes, let’s. They are still Muslims are they not? As Muslims they use and adhere to the Quran as there holy book. The Quran denies that Jesus is God and the only way to salvation. Thus they “preach another gospel”.

Here’s a quote from Perry.

“It is a great honor to be in the presence of the Imam of 16 million Muslims around the world, a global humanitarian leader, a man of peace with a pluralistic vision for people around the world, His Highness, the Aga Khan, the 49th Hereditary Imam of the Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims. Your Highness, on behalf of 23 million Texans, and over 600,000 thousand Muslims living in Texas, I extend our heartfelt appreciation for your 50 years of great international leadership. We are delighted to welcome you to the Lone Star State and participate in the celebration of your Golden Jubilee. I am also grateful to the many federal, state and local leaders in attendance tonight. By their presence, these special guests convey the profound respect that exists in the Western World for His Highness’ work and leadership.”

Now let’s see what scripture has to say about positions like that. And don’t forget that Perry said he was speaking for all Texans.

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” Galatians 1:8-9

2 John 1:9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

I will not follow or support a man is in that position.

You go ahead and vote for the Marxist.

As for me, I’ll vote for the patriot.

Gov. Good Hair still has to prove that to me.

I’m sorry but this is not what is on the minds of Americans...bottom line are jobs and the economy...a vaccination and the way Perry handled it is way way down the list. Let’s get real here....Perry has a job and economy record and that’s what people care about the rest is like smoke and mirrors to them.

I came on about the time Bill got caught with Monica. Those days were wild.

IMO, the posters were a lot smarter in the old, as well. Not as much arguing among ourselves...at least didn't seem to be.

Your thoughts?

A much smarter group of people back then...many of these FReepers act like the DU crowd. The last of the best were with the Rudy dump that took place. Lost some very smart folks...that’d not ever consider coming back....

I assure you that there are both inaccuracies and missing facts in this article.

List them and ping me.

Unless you are talking out of your Obama.

Thanks for at least reading it.

People can change their minds, Perry said that the Gardasil was a mistake. Some of the other items are state issues.

Sometimes you go to war with the army you have and not the army you wish you had. I haven’t fully investigated most of the candidates including Perry. So I appreciate all sides of a story that I can get. Sometimes it seems on FR we are ready to slap down any candidate, even though our personal choice has little to no chance of being elected.

We are viewing candidates through our filters that see no good and every imperfection. Sometimes we need to step back and separate what we desire and what we have to work with.

You don’t have to be snippy. I’m one of the good guys and have always thought you to be, too. Normally, I would just ignore your homework assignment, but there are things that need to be set straight.

First, let me repeat the third graph of the blog: “In the spirit of full disclosure, I voted for Perry in each of the three gubernatorial elections since 2002 and I am a conservative and a registered Republican. It was easy for me to vote for Perry since the alternative(s) were either uber-RINOs in the primaries or liberal Democrats in the general elections. Under the circumstances, my choice was always easy.”

Every one of the author’s words applies also to me.

I will vote for Perry for President if that’s what it takes to get rid of Obama. I hope it doesn’t come to that.

I have neither time or interest in an opus like the original article. Some brief and salient points:

1) Gardisil issue, the author says, “Agree or disagree, at least he listened to the people and backed off. “

Nope. Perry didn’t listen, he was forced to back down by public outcry and the legislature.

HPV is not something a student catches from casual contact with the kid at the next desk, and the whole idea was a nanny-state nightmare that would never have been considered by a true conservative.

2) Trans-Texas Corridor. This was not just some 21st century version of an interstate highway, as the author suggests. It was a massive land-grab through the best agricultural land in Texas. It would have been as wide as seven football fields, the entire length of Texas.

We can argue the merits and demerits of the plan, but Perry stood firm through years of public uproar and huge meetings and protests. He didn’t back down until his bulldog Rick Williamson, head of the Texas Transportation Committee, died.

Perry was so unpopular that he could only manage 39% of the vote in the following gubernatorial election, against “One Tough Grandma,” weirdo Kinky Friedman, and a Democrat nobody had ever heard of. Even the Texas Farm Bureau has refused to endorse him.

Perry even vetoed eminent domain reform (post Kelo decision). Giving more rights to landowners would have seriously hampered his tollroad plans. We finally got reform out of the latest legislature, Republican, this spring.

The Trans-Texas Corridor by that name may now be dead (they no longer use that name), but the concept can be resurrected at any time. I don’t have time or space to go into the legalities, but you can find the documents online.

As for converting existing roads into tollroads, it’s already being done. In both Dallas and Houston, any increased capacity is pay-per-mile.

3) I don’t care if he used to be a Democrat. Most long-time Texans were. No big deal.

4) Secession isn’t an issue, either. Actually, I’ve heard it suggested that one good way to finally get rid of Perry is to elect him POTUS and then secede. (jk)

5) I don’t think the quality of jobs created here is an issue, either, but I also cringe to hear Perry trying to take credit for our good economy. He’s riding coattails there. We are in better shape than most states because we have less government interference than most, and that pre-dates Perry.

6) He gets a pass on schools. We’re burdened with too many kids who don’t want to learn and with too many Mexicans whom we have to educate for free.

That said, my kids are all recent products of Texas public schools and were well-educated and doing quite well in their careers. No credit, no blame to Perry.

skip to

12) Unless the kid was born here or is here legally, no way should he be given in-state tuition. I paid for my kids’ education, not interested in educating them. That’s simply an enticement for more to come.

13) Those gay rumors have been around for years, started by a blog out of Austin. If they were true, there’d be evidence by now. Not an issue.

15) Yes, he is. Sanctuary cities and all. Just admit it.

The rest are silly.

I’ve got other things to do. Just, please, vote with your eyes wide open. Just because he’s a Texan doesn’t make Perry one of us. I gave up on him years ago.

A little snip from the linked article regarding his support of the dream act.

As a measure of Texas’ version of the “Dream Act,” popularity, it should be noted that it passed the Texas Senate with NO “no” votes – Perry was not out on a limb on this one, it was overwhelmingly supported.

Also regarding the “dream” act.

The Texas version relates to higher education only whereas the federal act would facilitate giving legal status to children who entered the U.S. illegally with their parents.

I supported Rudy and I am still here. When he imploded I moved on. I never felt it necessary to complain to the owner of this site and he never felt it was necessary to ban me - if he even knew who I was, which I doubt. I still don’t understand why you wanted him to start cracking down on folks who aren’t yet supporting Perry. It doesn’t add up with your worries about all the Rudy people who got thrown off FR.
