Tom Vilsack, President Obama's Secretary of Agriculture, appeared on MSNBC and said that foodstamps are putting people to work and are acting as an 'economic stimulus'.
Vilsack said:
"Well, obviously, it's putting people to work. Which is why we're going to have some interesting things in the course of the forum this morning. Later this morning, we're going have a press conference with Secretary Mavis and Secretary Chu to announce something that's never happened in this country -- something that we think is exciting in terms of job growth. I should point out, when you talk about the SNAP program or the foot stamp program, you have to recognize that it's also an economic stimulus. Every dollar of SNAP benefits generates $1.84 in the economy in terms of economic activity. If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, ship it. All of those are jobs. It's the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times."

I was hoping this was satire.
Satire, no. Mental illness, yes.

This is what you get with hard drug abuse.
Go find it yourself and bust 'em.
What, you're handicapped or something? Knock yourself out.
And HIV creates healthcare jobs. There is a bright side to every failure for this administration.
If we all did each others laundry and paid each other for doing same, would that also be a stimulus to the economy? Another collateral benefit would be full employment. Rotten economy and high unemployment problems solved. Why do I have to do all of the heavy lifting?
My plan is as valid as the Sec. Of Agri’s claim. Food stamps do not create wealth, they merely transfer wealth from the makers to the takers. It is the Democratic creed.
I am willing to help stimulate this economy! No.. I don’t NEED government assistance to purchase food.... but, if it will STIMULATE the economy, I’m willing to take one for the team...
SIGN ME UP!!!
This current bunch of liberal thugs in DC thinks people in general are as stupid as they are.
Were these the shovel ready jobs? So? Have they got their shovels and hard hats yet? I like it - there are many a road and bridge across the nation that needs to be rebuilt.
C’mon, guys, you know there’s some truth in the assertion that increasing food stamp distribution creates jobs.
If an individual with limited cash resources gets food stamps, he has more cash to spend on other things. Therefore he will spend more money on stuff like dope. The increase in dope demand will tend to increase dope prices, so the dope dealers will have more money to spend on bling and hos. The increase in dope demand will also benefit growers and create new jobs in a burgeoning grow ops industry. The increase in ho demand will benefit pimps and create new jobs in the exciting field of sexual services. And the increase in bling demand will add to the upward pressure exerted on precious metals prices by exploding deficits, reckless money supply expansion, and (foreign) central bank buying.

I don’t give a damn, I’d rather go to MRC to see the vid than MSNBC’s video player and the people on FR would too
You’re the one that’s worried about this stupid ass ‘blog hits’ BS
BTW, mrc has the word ‘blog’ in it.
wth, if the point is stimulus, let me keep it and I'll stimulate the economy without the govt types taking their cut helping
Well triple the number getting stamps and see if we get a recovery or go broke first. I cannot wait to kick Obama to the curb and get some adults up there serving the folks.
