In one of the first major parts of the Republican nomination process, we have a winner at the Iowa straw poll. Underneath are the winners, and other relevant numbers that have come out so far:
Michele Bachmann with 4,823 votes
16,892 ballots were cast. Rick Santorum came in fourth. That's about 3,000 more than expected.
Bachmann 4823,
Paul 4671,
Pawlenty 2293,
Santorum 1657,
Cain 1456,
Romney 567,
Gingrich 385,
Huntsman 69,
McCotter 35,
other write-ins 162.
Total votes 16892
I am increasingly optimistic suddenly that I will not be holding my nose next November. I liked this outcome, I’m not gonna lie.
Michele was born in Iowa, is from neighboring MN, and she got her supporters out, all in a very short span of time relative to how long she had to work the state.
Good for her. People liked her message, her unwavering committment and spunk, and her “local girl” status.
FL would quite naturally be different.
I’m really glad she beat Ron Paul. That is not easy to do at a straw poll.
Better call Fox News, they are the ones reporting the Perry write ins
it means something if these two candidates continue to develop momentum.

Just want I need to ice the cake - Ron Paul on speed:?
Agree
I am NOT going to vote for Romney! I don’t care if we have to put up with Obama for four more years. I am SICK of the Republican party taking the conservatives for granted. They need to be taught a lesson. I held my nose and voted for Dole and McCain. I will NOT do that again. I’ll stay home first!
I guess money can buy you an election.
‘””
In either party. DemonRats or the Grand Old Potty....business as usual. The Corrupt Bastards CLUBS.
Time for a BIG change. I say let the Girls handle it. The conservative girls. We’ve seen nothing but coat tail riders and layabouts, coatholders and solons for so long.
>>>Rick Perry had 712 write-in votes.
Says who?
There were only 162 other write-in votes per every media report I’ve seen/heard.
“I am NOT going to vote for Romney! I dont care if we have to put up with Obama for four more years.”
Good thinking. I’d vote for YOU before allowing B Hussein Obama another day in the WH.
ROFL. WHat’s going on?
Not only that but all Ron Pauls votes will go to Bachmann in the general..
UNless Palin gets in then Palin / Bachmann is the dream team..
If NOT then Bachmann / caine is the team..
Rick Perry beat Romney and he wasn’t even on the ballot.
Newt had a good debate, and had a real presense in Iowa, and couldn’t beat Romney, who didn’t show up. I think Newt should read the tea leaves and call it a life. He might make a good cabinet official.
Wait a second. Why would Rick Perry’s write-ins be given, but not Sarah Palin. I hadn’t noticed that, but if they were allowing write-in votes, Palin had to get a lot of them.
OK, there were 332 unaccounted-for votes, maybe they were for Sarah.
I here you. Looks like a girl won the pissing contest for us if you ask me.
How did McLame do in Iowa four years ago? Hmmmm. 1% of the vote.
I rest my case.
My take is that those are 162 other write ins. I’m guessing some of those probably went to Palin.
Hmm. Hotline had slightly different numbers, and they claim it’s the official results:
1. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (4823, 28.55%)
2. Congressman Ron Paul (4671, 27.65%)
3. Governor Tim Pawlenty (2293, 13.57%)
4. Senator Rick Santorum (1657, 9.81%)
5. Herman Cain(1456, 8.62%)
6. Governor Rick Perry (718, 3.62%) write-in
7. Governor Mitt Romney (567, 3.36%)
8. Speaker Newt Gingrich (385, 2.28%)
9. Governor Jon Huntsman (69, 0.41%)
10. Congressman Thad McCotter (35, 0.21%)
Scattering (162, 0.96 %) Includes all those receiving votes at less than one-percent that were not on the ballot.
The two differences I see are Newt has 4 more votes in this list, and Perry 6 more. Also, they show Huntsman and McCotter, and mention the other 162 votes but don’t say who they were for.
I really believe that Mittens gets way more ‘fear’ from us than is truly warranted. This goes a long way toward that theory.
Huh?
I see you missed the memo.
This conservative site does not and will not support Romney!
Not now, not ever.
I agree. I wasn’t going to vote last time except they put Palin on the ticket so I did. :)
