In one of the first major parts of the Republican nomination process, we have a winner at the Iowa straw poll. Underneath are the winners, and other relevant numbers that have come out so far:
Michele Bachmann with 4,823 votes
16,892 ballots were cast. Rick Santorum came in fourth. That's about 3,000 more than expected.
This is bad comedy.
I’m a little surprised to see Pawlenty make 3rd.
Good to hear not that it means anything. The Paul-bots usually overtake everything and Bachmann overcame that. Good for her. Not sure if I am gonna write her a check but I like what she’s saying.
It’s quite an interesting development of the situation actually. I am not at all unhappy with this outcome personally.
This straw poll has about as much importance as an NFL Pre-Season game.
Im a little surprised to see Pawlenty make 3rd.
Yeah...seventh would have been pawlenty good enough.
This certainly doesn’t reflect the choice of a lot of us folks in SW Florida.
It is almost laughable if it wasn’t so important.
Complete numbers:
Michele Bachmann with 4,823 votes
Ron Paul with approximately 4,671 votes
Tim Pawlenty with 2,293 votes
Rick Santorum with 1,653 votes
Herman Cain with 1,456 votes
Mitt Romney with 567 votes
Newt Gingrich with 385 votes
Rick Perry had 712 write-in votes.
I would rather see Santorum in 3rd. He’s about the only “establishment” candidate I could vote for without wincing...much.
it means something if these two candidates continue to develop momentum. it means the field will narrow. It means Mitt Romney is one step farther away from the Presidency too. Thumbs up!
Pretty much since Romney won this thing hy a landslide 4 years ago.
I was dismayed to hear that tickets had to be purchased to get to straw vote. More disappointed that candidates bought tickets for voters.
I guess money can buy you an election.
Bye Mitt. If you cannot do any better then this in the Midwest you are DOA.
9 out of 10 losers agree with you.
>>>>Rick Perry had 712 write-in votes.
Bullhockey.
There were only a total of 162 other write in votes.
Bachmann 4823,
Paul 4671,
Pawlenty 2293,
Santorum 1657,
Cain 1456,
Romney 567,
Gingrich 385,
Huntsman 69,
McCotter 35,
other write-ins 162.
Total votes 16892
712 write-ins beat Mitt and Newt and amazing since he only announced today.

Me neither. This is a huge middle finger to the GOP Establishments. BYE BYE Mitt. If he cannot do any better then this in the Midwest he is DOA.
Bachmann won by 152 votes. Pricey win but a win!
