Gun owner registration
bans on semi-automatic firearms
adoption of a UN gun control treaty -- all of these issues could very well be decided over the next 24 hours.
Both houses of Congress will be voting on a debt ceiling bill that establishes a legislative committee with TREMENDOUS powers. Fox News is calling this committee a SUPER CONGRESS, because its legislative proposals (which could include gun control provisions) CANNOT be filibustered or amended in the Senate or House.

NO, they will form a committee to figure out how to compromise on it.

This so called Super Congress is a voters nightmare! It will take over powers given strictly to Congress. We do NOT need this particular so called Committee. Let Congress do their jobs and vote on each bill. The UN treaty will infringe on the rights of US citizens. The Democrats have wished this nightmare on us. Remember that at 2012 elections.
To: what's up
It's not unconstitutional. Committees are set up all the time.unfortunately all we have to do is look at the czars running out of the white house and how they are issuing regulations that no one can question or challenge.

Not the same at all.
The Czars have no check. However, no suggestion the committee offers can become law without a vote from Congress.
To: what's up
You think that the way the votes are going and with the strong arm tactics that there will seriously be a “check” on this committee?

Why would a majority GOP House vote for tax hikes?
Why would tea party members in the House shut up?
Of course there is a check.
To: what's up
If they don't have the backbone now what makes you think that when/if they have the numbers later they will develop one?
We have had super majority in all three venues before and they did not know how to use it.

They stood against tax hikes. No reason to think they will vote for them next time.
You don't have much faith in the Tea party's check do you?
To: what's up
At this point I don’t trust anyone in DC!

This Super Committee nonsense is bad fricking news. There is a reason why we have 435 members of the House of Representatives. Now we will have Govt by committee. Any other legislation introduced by individual members will be marginalized and/or igonored.

I think this would take an amendment to the Constitution You're absolutely right! What has my brain (such as it is) spinning is the sudden spate of such extra-Constitutional brainf*rts floating one after another out of the quagmire of the Congressional imagination. They seem to think they can just make it up as they go along... ('scuse the language, not my usual style)

That's a shame.
Why don't you run for office?
To: apillar
It would take a constitutional amendment to create a super congress with any actual power.Oh, not so. So long as it's doing stuff that's AGAINST our interests, it will be treated as valid.
