Through the years, we've been told by the mainstream media that Bill O'Reilly, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, Rick Perry, and others represented the conservative point of view. For a long while, I bought that notion. Now that I'm relatively awake and actually paying attention, I don't think ANY of them are conservatives!
O'Reilly's positions baffle me. His assumption that a failure to raise the debt ceiling would result in a catastrophic downgrade of America's triple A bond rating is an absolute joke.
Failure to raise the debt ceiling does not equate to failure to pay debt obligations. How can O'Reilly not recognize this simple fact? What it DOES mean is that Congress would be forced to live within its means.
If raising the debt ceiling would actually improve our credit rating, then why do we have a ceiling in the first place? Eliminate it and spend away! Congress has proven over the decades that they need to have limits placed upon them. The debt ceiling is one of those limits.
Not raising the debt ceiling AND drastically cutting spending would show the world:
1We recognize we have a problem. 2 We are willing to do the hard things it takes to restore our nation AND our dollar.
3 Responsibility and honor still exist in America. How could anyone perceive this as a bad thing is beyond my comprehension?
If you were deep in debt would adding a new credit card (or raising the limits on your maxed out credit cards) improve your credit rating? Would a higher limit improve or potentially worsen your debt problems? These concepts hold just as true for governments as for individuals. The only difference is the enormity of the numbers.
Now for the "self-destructive" issue:

Ted Baxter also thinks that the louder he shouts the more correct he is.
I heard people on NPR today say that the Tea party is led by evangelical Christians and focused on divisive social issues liei abortion and homosexual marriage. The current financial crisis is caused by Tea Party people upset by abortion. The Republican Party is held hostage right now by a small group of people who don’t care about the economy and just want to push their religious agenda.
Baxter must go.
Failure to raise the debt ceiling does not equate to failure to pay debt obligations.
How can O’Reilly not recognize this simple fact?

...because he’s a pinhead, NOT a patriot.
our debt rating WILL go down, if we don’t reduce our debt.
Greece just had their’s lowered again.
because of their huge DEBT, not because their ceiling needed to be raised...
When I hear O’Reilly talk about anything to do with economics or the markets I think my head will blow off my body. He is a complete idiot on all things to do with money. And he is unlikely to learn anything since he simply shouts over anyone who isn’t as ignorant as he is.
Quite true BOR is a narcissistic blowhard, but if the debt ceiling is not raised, yes the budget will be cut immediately. But the executive branch will decide each and every cut. These cuts will be structured to hurt as many possible voters and taxpayers as possible. Leaving the progs’ dependents untouched. With the media leading the charge Obama will succeed in placing the blame on the GOP and IMO cruise to reelection.Spending cuts like the 40% cut envisioned by the Tea Party are not possible when the GOP controls only one House.
ted baxter’s so pompous.
my wife insists on watching ted,
otherwise, i’d forget it.
I know the Dems have no principles but they have a PLAN.That plan will end the USA as we’ve known it. I understand your point of view, but I know that that PoV plays with 30-35% of the voters. That will not win in 2012. And 2012is the GAME.
