This is the definition of "lame duck" that applies to American politics:

2 : an elected official or group continuing to hold political office during the period between the election and the inauguration of a successor

In fact, The Trademark herself gave this as her reason for quitting.

From the resignation speech of Sarah Palin (™):

And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn’t run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk it”. I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That’s not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old “politics as usual.” I promised that four years ago – and I meant it.

You can read the full transcript here and watch the speech here: Part1 Part2

I don't know how you can claim lame duck status when you have 16 months left in your term.

BTW, a few months later with Bill O'Reilly, she again cited the "lame duck" status as her reason for quitting.

As I have said before, I do not believe that Palin(™) had fully decided to quit or stay when she gave her speech. Here's why...

In the first part she stated that she was not going to seek re-election.

In the second she stated that she was quitting as if it were an after thought.

Now, if it were her intention to quit then why even bother to make the 'I'm not seeking re-election' statement?

Nope, Trademark (aka Godot) ad-libbed the I quit part.

From your link...

Her usage of the phrase "lame duck" fits like a glove.

This is the definition of "lame duck" that applies to American politics: 2 : an elected official or group continuing to hold political office during the period between the election and the inauguration of a successor

What?

Read the full context of what she said...

Now read the full context of what she said, this time inserting definition #1, from your link...

To begin with, to say that definition #1 should not be used to describe politicians is an absurd statement.

Continuing on, Palin described Obama as being left behind in the negotiations. Palin described Obama as somebody who is "leading from behind". Those ideas are synonymous with definition #1 of the term Lame Duck which describes somebody "who falls behind in ability". Palin used the term Lame Duck correctly.

Yet you insist that she got it wrong.

LOL!

Sorry to say, you are beyond reason.

EveningStar,

What you give as evidence of "fact" is instead false context.

Palin did not say she was resigning because she was a lame duck. Palin said she was resigning because of the law suites and she mentioned her lame duck status as an after thought.

Here is the full context of Palin's remarks concerning her resignation...

Palin describes the lawsuit problem.

Palin then talks about her choices given the lawsuit problem.

Palin then chooses a course of action from her choices, given the lawsuit problem.

Palin only then mentions her lame duck status as an after thought...

I already pointed this out to you last week.

You ignore the full detailed context of what she said and you remove from context what only fits your bias.

As I said in my previous post, at the very least when it comes to Palin, you are beyond reason.

You appear to not only be verbally challenged, but factual history as well.

What was Clinton called,in the NEWSWEEK article about him, called "THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING PRESIDENT"? Oh gee..........it was "LAME DUCK" and that was two years into his first term! Another article about Clinton, around the same time, asked if Clinton was relevant.

Unlike Governor Palin, neither Clinton nor Obama was/is being sued by cranks, political operatives, and having those cases disrupt the entire government. And please don't even think about bringing up Monica, since THAT mess came to the fore years later.

You're an anti-Palin troll, who twists facts and words to the point of unrecognizableness. Unlike you, we all know and understand what Palin's use of the term "lame duck" means, referring to Obama. And funnily enough, your posted definition proves that her use of that term is quite apt.
