The release of more than 20,000 of former Governor Sarah Palins e-mails has yielded content that some are calling unsettling.
We noted that on more than one occasion Governor Palin mentioned that she hoped for divine guidance to help her reach the right decision on an issue, the Associated Press (AP) wrote in an unsigned analysis. This is wrong on several levels. First, it is an illegal mingling of church and state. Theres supposed to be a wall between the two. Palin breached that wall.
Second, it implies a certain degree of helplessness on Palins part, the AP continued. Were the tasks of being governor too big for her to handle in her own without imaginary assistance from a non-existent entity? Is this the kind of person we should trust to exercise governing authority?
Finally, if we grant that a god does exist is it fair to seek help from this source? the AP asked. Isnt it like a player asking a referee for special favors? Shouldnt we want a level playing field in politics?
Others found fault with the assessment that the e-mails were written at an 8th grade level of comprehension according to the Flesch-Kincaid readability test. The average score for Palins e-mails was only 8.5, Presidential Press Secretary Jay Carney crowed. The Presidents state-of-the-union address was rated 8.8the same as Martin Luther King Jr.s I Have a Dream speech.
Democrat and Chief Executive Officer of 2tor (an on-line education organization) John Katzman cautioned that comparing ordinary daily communications with historic speeches could be misleading. An e-mail is often a quick, off-the-cuff message. A state-of-the-union speech is crafted by a team over several weeks. That Palins e-mails come so close could be considered remarkable.

Nice... lol
Don’t give them any ideas, John.
Intermingling of church and state?
Apparently the writer never read the Declaration of Independence all the way to the end. If they had they would have found this at the end:
“With firm reliance on divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor”
“Divine Providence”.....that’s GOD my friend. They involved Him from the beginning.
I got to about 2 lines before I thought to look up and see if I had been had... I had.
I guess I am getting better but still getting had.
No worries, m’FRiend! John’s one of the best in the business at reeling people in with his “semi-satires”. I’d be willing to wager hard cash that virtually every FReeper has been taken in by his writing at one time or another. I know I have.
You got gotted.
You too. Made me look.
They're all missing the point. A writer is supposed to write for his reader. A CEO needs to be able to write clearly. A politician needs to be understood by most adults. Palin’s writing is written at exactly the right reading level — maybe a little too high for the general public.
Go suck an egg AP - nobody takes you serious any more.
Someone please post the pic of Washington’s prayer at Valley Forge.
In honor of him fooling me for a while last year my tagline was "I am so immune to satire that I ate three Irish children after reading Swift's 'A Modest Proposal'". The only problem is that it may be satire this week, but next week the exact same post might be true.
Browsin’ before logging on - read a few lines and knew right away it was yours;)
Good stuff again JS (Just Satire)!
I used to be on his PING list, but asked to be removed. It’s so much more fun when I come on his pieces unexpectedely and get my BP up so high that it clears my clogged arteries.
You forgot the satire tag.
You got me this time, John.
I can see liberals saying this.
That’s why it’s funny.
Whew, I started reading and then went back to the source. Bet you get a few bites on this one.
