When we went out on the street and started asking people to sign a petition to ban ATM machines, we expected most of them to call us crazy or to simply ignore us. But in Barack Obama's America, banning cash machines as economic stimulus actually seems like a fairly reasonable idea to many folks.

We had a lot of people who thought it made sense to get rid of cash machines and for a variety of reasons.
Some didn't like the usage fees and concluded that the best way to get rid of the hassle was to get rid of ATM's altogether.
Other's wanted to see America return to a simpler time when we all got our money from our friendly neighborhood banker who knew your name, smiled at you and gave little Billy a lollipop after which you could hop in your horse drawn carriage and return to your candle lit home.
One woman even said that ATM machines were bad for the environment.

Idiots.
Automatic teller machine machines.
Please, stop giving them ideas.
The Luddites were a social movement in the nineteenth century who protested against the changes produced by the Industrial Revolution, often by destroying mechanized looms, which they felt were leaving them without work and changing their way of life. It took its name from Ned Ludd.
In the early 21st century, a movement arose to destroy ATM machines. It’s name, Obamites, was taken from their leader, Barrack Obama.
I’m old enough to remember the long lines at the banks before ATMs became popular. Some people would even wait an hour or more in some lines. Heck, in one bank I used to work at, in New York, the lines, especially on Fridays and beginning of the months, had to be extended outside the bank doors. Technology isn’t just to replace people; it’s to make their lives easier. Besides, how many bank tellers are there that could hand you your money after regular working hours? People need to be asked questions detailing the pros and cons before they can answer them “intelligently” or at least an “informed response”.
Pumping your own gas puts people out of work too.
No wonder we have the president, and senators, and representatives, and governors, etc. that we have.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of deep thinking going on in the average american’s life. So, who’s on top in American Idol these days. ;)
In the 1980’s, I worked for a while for a Shop n Save supermarket here in Pittsburgh and was made a member of the UFCW.
The union newsletters rallied constantly against checkout scanners, expressing the opinion that the price needed to be marked on every can of beans and every roll of toilet tissue and that scanners were going to hurt employment.
Dihydrogen monoxide: it's a chemical so therefore it's bad for you.
Elections have consequences.
Yeap. Actually the internet killed jobs that print media downsized, shoppers buy online, travellers book themselves, etc. When FAX came around USPS workload reduced then the internet done worse.
However, it wasn't until the mid to late 1980s that ATMs became part of mainstream banking.
Why not get rid of self ser service stations while we are at it. Obama is in a panic for Jobs.

The Prez has a great point —what about the treacherous COTTON GIN, hmmmm..? Think of the would-be, happy JobFul people out there in the fields, faces upturned to the sun, weilding machetes, “daylight come and me wanna go home..!”

Automation killed a lot of phone switchboard jobs. The buggy whip industry has been destroyed.
It is not the ATM putting people out of work, it is that green crap that comes out of the ATM. And DC is 100 % responsible for destroying that product.
