What's Up With the 'Scary Black People' Narrative?

Salon's Alex Pareene has noticed that ever since Matt Drudge latched onto the made-up story of Ashley Todd (the McCain supporter who claimed she was attacked by a black Obama supporter), the Drudge Report creator seems to have a new fixation: making whites terrified of blacks by providing a platform for stories about "scary black people," from kids fighting on buses to participants in "urban melees." Meanwhile, similar crimes by white kids (and nonurban melees) mysteriously get skipped over.

Pareene is adamant that this is intentional and political. We agree and would add that it's also probably quite effective. So brace yourself for even more stoking of racial fears...

... Since Obama actually took office, though, Drudge has seriously stepped up his "scary black people" coverage. There was, in September of 2009, the story he heavily publicized of a kid on a bus in Illinois getting beaten up. A kid on a bus in Illinois getting beaten up is not really national news -- until Drudge makes it so. The fact that the beater was black and the victim white is why Drudge made it national news.

It all came to a head, as John Cook noted, this Memorial Day weekend when Drudge posted 10 separate headlines -- including the massive, above-the-logo one -- related to violent incidents involving "urban" people at venues like "Black Bike Week" in Miami and "Rib Fest" in Rochester, N.Y. There was an "Urban Melee in Charlotte," for example. Do you know what makes an "urban melee" different from a regular "melee"? It's not that it takes place within the city limits of a major metropolitan area. It's that it involves the world's most obvious code term for "scary black people."

If this goof was so concerned about the crimes by white kids, then how come they are not reported? Drudge just put together the stories together that were reported by obamamedia outlets. So I guess the barakmedia is all a bunch of racists then.

Meanwhile we have many news reports of black-on-white violence, even with the government and media’s attempts to cover it up (Chicago and Rahm this last weekend).

True enough. The only "black history" we're taught is slavery. Overlooked is the history of free black men going back to the earliest days of the colonies and then the nation. Black soldiers buried with full military honor with no mention of race (Treated the same as whites) and black men who held elected office in the days of George Washington etc.

Or Cops. There is an author with a new book out on liberalism in prime-time TV, and he was on a radio show I listened to yesterday. He played audio from the creator/EP of Cops where the guy bragged about showing more white criminals than black or hispanic in the show...on purpose. He even went so far as to cite percentages (60% white, 40% other). All done to skew reality in favor of political correctness.

Gates wants us to ignore reality. If he believes these kinds of behaviors - flash mobs, fighting, shooting, looting convenience stores - are acceptable in American society, he should say so plainly. But it is time for black adults to start acting like adults. People who are chronically whining and dependent do not make good role models for young people.

so where are these groups of crazed white kids causing trouble? surely if this is a normal occurence, they can certainly find the stories...

im from pittsburgh, and when i got home from work last nite, i put on the news on kdka at 6pm. the first five stories were crime related, 4 blacks involved in murder, assault, etc, and one idiot white guy dressed as a ninja.......except for the ninja, this is pretty much the news everyday....

but ,nooooo, let’s not point this out, cause we be racists then...F-me and the horse i rode in on....

I was surprised when I read about the number of cities where these brawls were happening. Drudge was the only source to report on it. The national news media won’t cover it, because they’re afraid of the Gates’s in the World. Again, Gates is simply avoiding reality, and wants the rest of us to do the same.
