Remember when Andrea Mitchell attempted to interrupt Governor Palins Going Rogue tour in 2009 and got stopped cold by a security guard?
Well, Andrea Mitchell attempted to interrupt Governor Palins One Nation tour with a false report and has been stopped cold by the facts.
Yesterday, she falsely reported on Andrea Mitchell Reports that Governor Palin was not invited to participate in Rolling Thunder activities this weekend, relying on one disgruntled source to imply that Palin was using the veterans group for publicity without their approval. Mitchells story has been thoroughly refudiated.
Hot Air scoop:
Sarah Palins One Nation bus tour appeared to have gotten off to a false start yesterday as a member of the pro-veterans organization Rolling Thunder went on NBC to denounce her presence at an upcoming event of theirs, claiming no one had invited her. Turns out, as per organization spokesperson Christine Colborne, Palin had been invited, but had RSVPd too soon for the group to announce her arrival to all its members.
Hot Airs Ed Morrissey called up the organization and got in touch with Colborne, who explained that the issue was one of internal miscommunication and that Palin had been invited by Michael DiPaolo, a retired board member. Ted Shpak, another organization spokesperson and veteran himself, hadnt been notified of Palins appearance by the time he went on Andrea Mitchell Reports and was seriously concerned that Palin would be a distraction:
Colbourn spoke with me on the phone in the middle of an all-night car ride to Washington DC, and explained that the last-minute RSVP didnt get communicated through the echelons of Rolling Thunder. . Shpak (and Colborne) were taken by surprise by Palins announcement. Shpak does have the authority to speak for the organization, they had no idea that Palin was invited

I think it can now be officially renamed: “Rolling Thunder and... Lightning.”
Naw, that would have been a 1970 Torino Cobra with a 429 in my case.
Never messed up the *Big* Ford, came close, but never messed up :^)
How do you blame Andrea Mitchell for an official spokesperson telling her Palin wasn’t invited? How is that her fault? Even Conservatives4Palin admit that the guy she interviewed was authorized to speak for the group.
That’s the guy you should be blaming this time. Andrea deserves blame for lots of things, but not really this — except maybe being too excited about reporting what she was told by an official spokesperson.
I understand.
I understand.
Sorry couldn't resist.
I was the “passenger” going into the field with pelosi eyes. My brother was a nut with that thing.
there are claims he was on stage with richard Bluemental to “Defend” him when he lied about serving in vietnam
the news media use to have two sources before going to press with something like this. NBC failed
You suppose to get two or three sources to confirm a story or at least seek the right sources on a subject as media use to do.....Mitchell showed her incompetence in not verifying the information with other sources that HOTAIR obviously went to to confirm and she is bias in rushing to report it
Checkmate
Bet there were sparks flying from her little shoes as she ran to report it.
I believe the 200,000 or so members who show up for the event are allowed to invite whoever they want.
Mitchell could have done her homework and found out that official spokesmen for the group does't have records of all the invitees. She could have asked Shpak such a question about that.
I think it's what a responsible reporter interested in finding the truth would do.
Those journalists who care about accuracy fact check their stories. Even an "authorized" source can be wrong, so professionals like to get independent confirmation. It's like a patient, even if the first physician is from Hopkins, getting a second opinion. A professional would have left her socialist, anti-American views at home and verified the statements before reporting. Mitchell is too sloppy and biased to behave like the ideal covered in journalistic ethics or even professionalism courses (if they even bother with that quaint concept).
I hope when the Rolling Thunder Rally is reported on there will be PHOTOS of the event........and of PALIN’s presence.
Okay, let's roll tape with a real reporter doing the interview.
A REAL REPORTER: Who in your organization is responsible for inviting people to the event?
SHPAK. Ah, actually any member can invite whoever they want.
A REAL REPORTER: So then how do you know that Paliin wasn't invited.
SHPAK: Um....
Their elitism and inside the belchway snark has put them into a very compromised position, they have to manufacture scandal to attack, scenarios that blow up in their over-pancaked faces.
-Jerk-
Our veterans love Sarah Palin, this jerk was afraid Sarah would upstage him. ..pure & simple.
As a major-network "news" journalist, you never take one or two people's word for something and race to air with it. You "vet" everything six ways from Sunday so that when you finally go to air with it, you don't end up looking like an untrustworthy, salivating, agenda-driven slut.
That's how. Got it?
