How do you blame Andrea Mitchell for an official spokesperson telling her Palin wasn’t invited? How is that her fault? Even Conservatives4Palin admit that the guy she interviewed was authorized to speak for the group.
That’s the guy you should be blaming this time. Andrea deserves blame for lots of things, but not really this — except maybe being too excited about reporting what she was told by an official spokesperson.
the news media use to have two sources before going to press with something like this. NBC failed
You suppose to get two or three sources to confirm a story or at least seek the right sources on a subject as media use to do.....Mitchell showed her incompetence in not verifying the information with other sources that HOTAIR obviously went to to confirm and she is bias in rushing to report it
Checkmate
I believe the 200,000 or so members who show up for the event are allowed to invite whoever they want.
Mitchell could have done her homework and found out that official spokesmen for the group does't have records of all the invitees. She could have asked Shpak such a question about that.
I think it's what a responsible reporter interested in finding the truth would do.
Those journalists who care about accuracy fact check their stories. Even an "authorized" source can be wrong, so professionals like to get independent confirmation. It's like a patient, even if the first physician is from Hopkins, getting a second opinion. A professional would have left her socialist, anti-American views at home and verified the statements before reporting. Mitchell is too sloppy and biased to behave like the ideal covered in journalistic ethics or even professionalism courses (if they even bother with that quaint concept).
Okay, let's roll tape with a real reporter doing the interview.
A REAL REPORTER: Who in your organization is responsible for inviting people to the event?
SHPAK. Ah, actually any member can invite whoever they want.
A REAL REPORTER: So then how do you know that Paliin wasn't invited.
SHPAK: Um....
As a major-network "news" journalist, you never take one or two people's word for something and race to air with it. You "vet" everything six ways from Sunday so that when you finally go to air with it, you don't end up looking like an untrustworthy, salivating, agenda-driven slut.
That's how. Got it?
;-\
It will be interesting to see how soon Angrya corrects her mistake in print or on TV. A real journalist (haven’t seen many for a long, long time) would jump on the chance to correct their own mistake...
What’s your guess on how long it’ll take, how obscurely it’s done, or—MOST LIKELY—if she’ll do it at all?
