Sarah Palins One Nation bus tour appeared to have gotten off to a false start yesterday as a member of the pro-veterans organization Rolling Thunder went on NBC to denounce her presence at an upcoming event of theirs, claiming no one had invited her. Turns out, as per organization spokesperson Christine Colborne, Palin had been invited, but had RSVPd too soon for the group to announce her arrival to all its members.
Hot Airs Ed Morrissey called up the organization and got in touche with Colborne, who explained that the issue was one of internal miscommunication and that Palin had been invited by Michael DiPaolo, a retired board member. Ted Shpak, another organization spokesperson and veteran himself, hadnt been notified of Palins appearance by the time he went on Andrea Mitchell Reports and was seriously concerned that Palin would be a distraction:
Colborne spoke with me on the phone in the middle of an all-night car ride to Washington DC, and explained that the last-minute RSVP didnt get communicated through the echelons of Rolling Thunder. Everyone is either in transit or already in DC, and internal communication broke down as often happens before a major event. Shpak (and Colborne) were taken by surprise by Palins announcement. Shpak does have the authority to speak for the organization, Colborne says, but he had no idea that Palin was invited by DiPaolo, and Shpak worried that Palins arrival might be a big distraction from the issues on which Rolling Thunder wants people to focus.
Morrissey adds that, with groups like these, the communication error is particularly understandable because it subsists exclusively on volunteer work none of the people involved in it get a paycheck, and veterans like Shpak are involved based only on their passion for the job. As for Shpak, he has yet to issue a statement on his appearance given the news that Palin is not, in fact, crashing his event.

I’d be willing to bet NBC (or MSNBC) had knowledge their story was inaccurate, and ran it anyway.
This is an example of who and what these people are. Like most campaigns, fact checking isn’t a priority. These people call themselves “Media”, but what they are is a world wide political campaign.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin may be stealing the Rolling Thunder from the motorcycling group's annual Memorial Day ride with her plans to tag along on Sunday, but the group says it will keep the focus on their mission to support U.S. troops and veterans.
Palin will ride with the Rolling Thunder and its hundreds of thousands of bikers to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial but she will not make any remarks nor be mentioned in any speeches by members of the group, Rolling Thunder spokeswoman Nancy Regg told Fox News.
...Regg expressed frustration about how all the will-she-or-won't-she media coverage of Palin has threatened to overshadow Sunday's event, which she emphasized is about the Rolling Thunder servicemen and women. Palin will be riding as an equal who will not get any extra attention, Regg said.
Upstaged event FAIL.
Does this make sense to anybody?
Palinoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep...
I guess no one at NBC attempted to contact Sarah Palin, or anyone who works for her, to confirm the story. That, of course, would have put a monkey wrench in their plans to bash Sarah for presuming to force herself on the Veteran’s group.
EPIC FAIL on your part___________LOL.
Stand by.
Best to ignore PDS troll.
No. It’s nonsensical.
How do you RSVP too soon?
It’s an organization of volunteers. Even in a company as efficient as IBM or General Mills, there is constant mis-communication, much less an ad hoc veterans group.
I understand but I’m just confused how RSVP’ing early caused the word to not get to all members.
a late RSVP might cause that, not an early one.
Somebody is CYA
...Palin had been invited, but had RSVPd too soon for the group to announce her arrival to all its members.
...makes no sense on its face.
Maybe the reporter meant too late. There are no editors any more.
The guy had no business being on MSNBC and pandering to Mrs. Greenspan anyway.
Because it's a given that MSNBC will always take its shots at Sarah. Facts never matter with that corrupt liberal outlet.
That's true. An editor would have revised...
...Palin had been invited, but had RSVPd too soon for the group to announce her arrival to all its members.
...to:
...Palin had been invited, but failed to RSVP correctly, and so the group became unsure and confused, especially when they were informed that Palin always required all the red M&Ms be removed from her bowl of candy.
Ted Shpak is best bud with Chris Dodd and he supported Blumenthal even after he had fabricated his Vietnam war record, nuff said.
